AXA The past year of campus activities brought Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity its ninth consecutive Dads ' Day participa- tion trophy and a second-place award in the 1966 Varsity Carnival concessions category. The fraternity, active in community service, had its annual Muscular Dystrophy Drive car wash and held a Christmas party for the Round Rock School orphans with Chi Omega sorority. Lambda Chi also hosted visiting fellow Jusculino Kubitschek, former president of Brazil. Social events for the fraternity included the White Rose formal, a funny gift Christmas party, a casino party, several casuals, and the annual New Orleans party. In intramural competition, Lambda Chi placed two men in the top ten intramural lists. Dan Bulla repeated as all- University wrestling champion in 1966. Robert Baker and Kirk Franklin won the all-University B tennis champion- ship. Active men on campus included David Lambert, Friars and president of the Texas Union ; Clif Drummond, president of the Students ' Association and Friars; Richard Romo, president of T Association and Friars; Rad Eanes, graduate school assemblyman; Sidney Lanier and Jim Derryberry, engineering school assemblymen, and Lafe Hill, 1967 Cactus associate editor. The fraternity was led by James Vinson Derrick, presi- dent; Harvey Radner Eanes, vice-president; Howard Wayne Craft, secretary; Robert Wayne Mims, treasurer; and David Joseph Jones, social chairman. 2300 Nueces. Last year on campus, Phi Delta Theta won the annual Aggie Wood-gathering Contest and participated in both the Aggie Sign Contest and University-sponsored Dimes Day. In the national Community Service Day sponsored by the fraternity, the Texas chapter placed second for repairing and painting the Austin Retarded Children ' s Home. In intramurals Phi Delta Theta placed second in fraternity division football league play and won second in league basketball play. Varsity Phi Delt athletes included seven football players, three basketball players, two swimmers, two trackmen, and one baseball player. Phi Delta Theta campus leaders were Joe Bob Kinsel, president of Posse; Bill Greenhill, vice-president of the Texas Union Speakers Committee; and Leigh Curry, arts and sciences assemblyman. The first fraternity on campus, Phi Delta Theta was char- tered locally in 1883, the year the University opened. It was founded nationally at Miami University in Ohio in 1848. Phi Delt officers were Charles William Tate, president; Marion Alfred Olson Jr., vice-president; Joe Bob Kinsel, secretary; Dwight Winslow Johnson, treasurer; Edwin Med- ley Payne, historian; George Michael DeGeurin and Douglas Stirling, rush captains. Ben B. McAndrew became president, and William Alfred Lang, treasurer, in the spring semester. Mrs. Charles E. Ward was fraternity housemother.
