EX-STUDENTS ' ASSOCIATION JOHN A. McCURDY, Secretary ROBERT LEE BOBBITT, President The Ex-Students ' Association forms a link between the University and all ex-students of the school. An important public relations unit, the Association maintains a much-used file on every student ' s life here, and publishes the monthly magazine, The Alcalde. In addition to these services, the Ex-Student ' s Association has several firsts of which it can be proud. Through its sponsorship, the first Round-Up was inaugurated in 1930 as a means of bringing exes, parents, and friends back to the campus and of stimulating cooperative efforts between faculty, students, and ex-students. The Association continues to assist in securing gifts for the University. As a result, a number of loan and scholarship funds have been established, and every year each ex is encouraged to make some gift to the University through the Association ' s Annual Giving program. DEVELOPMENT BOARD HULON W. BLACK, Director EDWARD W. SMITH, Assistant Director GEORGE P. HILL, Chairman Director Assistant Director HULON W. BLACK EDWARD W. SMITH BOARD GEORGE P. HILL, Chairman, Fort Worth L. H. CULLUM, Vice-Chairman, Wichita Falls HINES H. BAKER, Houston JAMES A. ELKINS, Houston JAMES P. HART, Austin J. R. PARTEN, Houston ROBERT W. STAYTON, Austin ROGER J. WILLIAMS, Austin JAMES RALPH WOOD, Dallas ANGUS G. WYNNE, Dallas The University of Texas Development Board, the fund raising agency for the University, includes in its membership representatives of the Board of Regents the Ex-Students ' Association, the Administration, and the faculty. Its primary purpose is to assist in financing approved Uni- versity projects which may not reasonably be expected to be financed either from the appropriation of public funds or from the income of the University ' s endowment. The Board consists of ten members, three of whom are named by the Board of Regents, four by the Executive Council of the Ex-Students ' Association, and two by and from the general faculty. The Chancellor serves as an ex-officio member. As members of the Board these men receive no financial remuneration but donate their time and effort for the welfare of the State through the University. The Board is directly responsible to the Board of Regents, and any project which it undertakes must first receive the approval of the Administration. It attempts to assist in carrying forward the University ' s program as outlined and approved by the Administration and the Regents. In seeking funds for approved projects it works with foundations, both local and national; with individuals, both in Texas and outside the bounds of the State; and with corporations and other business enter- prises whose interest and support can be enlisted. Within the University it works closely not only with the administrative officers but also with members of the faculty in developing and financing a great variety of enterprises which are needed for the upbuilding both of the Main University and its various branches. These enterprises run the gamut from buildings, scholarships, and fellowships to research projects, library acquisitions, additions to the museums, salary supplementation, and many other phases of the University ' s life and work. During the past year, the organization has had over 1300 participating members who have paid dues. The funds derived from these dues have made possible the publication of the U.T. Dads ' Digest, and an experimental high school visitation program which has proved very successful. A Dads ' Scholarship Fund was started in 1951-1952. The highpoint of Dads ' Association activities came this year with the annual Dads ' Day held on the campus. Fathers were taken on tours of the campus, and honored at a coffee (mothers had their own). They were addressed by Chancellor James P. Hart and by President Harry Webb, who gave the annual report. In addition, the Association made awards to the Best All-Round Boy and the Best All-Round Girl at the University. The awards this year went to Ralph Person of Karnes City, and Ann Rosborough of Tyler. Further encouragement of good citizenship was made by the Dads ' this year when they co-operated with the Campus League of Women Voters in presenting an award to the Outstanding Assemblyman of 1952, Sidney Siegel of Paris.
