It includes the departments of anthropology, eco- nomics, education, history, geography, political science, sociology, psychology and international relations. He earned his doctorate at Cornell University and had taught at other universities before joining the SC staff. It inclucies the departments of Asiatic studies (which teaches Chinese and Japanese hinguages), classical lan- guages, comparative literature, English, tine arts, French, German, music, phil- osophv, religion, Slavic studies and Span- ish-Italian. Most students in LAS enroll at one time or another in courses otfered bv these departments. Many students find that the Hoose Library of I ' hilosophy contains many volumes of treasured liter- ature which help them in their work in these departments. Dr. John D. Cooke is chairman of the Division and is a pro- fessor of English. Dr. Cooke graduated from Stanford and came to SC in 1920.
