THEIR BE T FOR THE BUYS A good education requires more than the right books. It requires the close cooperation of teachers, parents, and students. Both the parents and the teacher are hampered in their efforts to give the student the best pos- sible education when they do not have a close bond of cooperation. Quite often the chances for such cooperation are limited because the teacher and parent do not get a chance to get together. The L' of D High Dads' Club makes sure that this does not happen here. The Dads' Club does this in many ways-first of all by the regular meetings where teachers and Dads get a chance to get together in an informal and relaxed atmos- phere and compare notes. The Dads, Club helps insure close contact between faculty and parents by special events meetings such as the annual Freshman Night where father and son have a chance to spend an evening together, along with meeting other fathers and sons and the boys' teachers. Freshman Night is followed soon by Meet the Faculty Night where the Dads go through a regular class day in miniature along with their sons, ending with a rally in the gym. Each year the Dads' Club sponsors a Career Day which features a survey of the various professions where Dads and sons can hear and question experts in many fields. Thirdly the Dads' Club is behind the annual Expan- sion and Scholarship Drive staged in the spring. The new gymnasium and the addition to the faculty house and many other additions and improvements along with many scholar- ships have been made possible by the Dads' Club. Fr. MOM ' 25th GALA ITE Mothers eliminate the middle man SUCCESS GF '60 A mother soon finds out, when she sends her son to U of D, that packing lunches and helping with home- work are only a small part of her job. As a matter of fact, through the Mothers' Club she becomes an important part of the life and progress, not only of her own son but also of the entire school. At the monthly meetings of the Mothers' Club, she is given an opportunity to confer with her son's teachers on his development in the various phases of school life Through these conferences, both mother and teacher can gain valuable insights for their common work of turning boys into men. Through this organization the mother learns first-hand the problems and plans of the school as a wholeg and, what is more, she is in a position to do something about them. The Father Lord Theater, the school P.A. system, a scholarship program as well as numerous other valuable school improvements, can be traced back to the Mothers Club Gala Night, a family dance in February has tra ditionally been the mothers contribution to U of D s soclal life This year, as in years past, Fr Farrell, SJ , served as faculty advisor to the Mothers Club Serving as this year s president was Mrs Grifiin Mothers Club officers fseatedl to fl Nirs XX Vkeitzel second xice pre ident Wir G Griffin pre idtnt 'Sir E Stcngcr Corre pondlng tcretarx 'Sir VS Cotcllt rec rdlni. stcrttarx bland mg Wir F Petersmarl. trca urer Fr Farrell SJ 'Sir J Tomlin cn financial tcretarx Nlr R Brennan nrst xlce president J u 1 - .. , . . , . , . . , . . , I , .
