Comedy Club The UCLA Comedy Club was an eclectic, completely student-run organi- zation which provided entertainment to the UCLA community while allowing its members to develop their talent in com- edy writing and performance. Each of the club ' s shows featured all-new, origi- nal material generated during the group ' s comedy writing workshops. The club, which also performed around Los Angeles and at colleges throughout the state, helped to launch many successful careers in the enter- tainment industry. A highly polished and professional organization, The UCLA Comedy Club aims to produce the most educated members of the entertain- ment industry, or at least the funniest members of all other industries, said club president Steve Callaghan. H This member of the Comedy Club breatties a sigh of relief after a performance in the Coop. I Steve Callaghan shows members of the Comedy Club where their audience really is. Communications Board Eating in the Coop became a new experience this year thanks to the UCLA Communications Board. Starting winter quarter, Comm. Board made a resolution to play KLA in various places on campus. Thus, KLA was able to broaden its listener base and attract listeners who would take their appreciation for the station back to their apartments and dorms. Throughout the year, Comm. Board made decisions such as these, affecting all media groups at UCLA. The Board presided over the newsmagazines: Al Talib, Ha ' Am, La Gente, NOMMO, Pacific Ties, Ten Per- cent, Together, as well as Bruin Life . KLA and the Daily Bruin. Their decisions influenced everything from budgeting to productions for each group. Comprised of student and faculty representatives, the intent of the Board was to provide students maximum control of their work without interfer- ence from campus politics. They gave them the freedom to act as publishers of their respective publications. The Communication Board ' s tar- geted goal for the academic year was to face each media objectively, free from special interest pressures and to respond impartially to the proposals and needs of the various medias. H Chairman of the Communications Board Kelly Grovier, and graduate representative Steve Kaganove discuss a proposed resolution by KLA. Victor Bullock, Rushdi Cader, Larry Gower, Kelly Grovier, Gary Heller, Terence Hsiao, Steve Kaganove, David Lipsey, Jure Marn, Stuart Silversteln, Michael Stiber, Lisa Welch. Groups 367
