'W-6 Daaaaam The V-6 Division provides the basic maintenance support for the embarked Air Group to keep 'em flying. Diversifi- cation is the keynote rather than the exception in this unique division. In V-6 are found electronicsmen, tinbenders, aviation mechs, parachute riggers, yeomen, electricians and compart- ment cleaners to name a few. Their duties are as varied as their rates. There is communications equipment, navi- gational aids, radar, fire control devices, tractors, auxiliary power units, parachutes and other survival gear that must be operated and maintained. There is aircraft instruments to be tested and calibrated, life-saving oxygen bottles must be on hand, a hydraulic jenney is needed ...... the list keeps going, and so does V-6. What is it? Where is it? Not easy to define. It's a littlegbit of everything, It's hard to draw a line. Starboard to port Topside and below Sixty-odd men Try to run this show. It's a pair of greasy coveralls Over a frustrated mech While he's trying to lube a tractor Prone on a salt-watered deck. It's a worn APU CThat's not so very oldj With diesel fuel in the gas tank, Someone's cooperating we're told. It's a back-saving forklift That can move a three-ton cart, Yet waits and waits and WAITS For a one pound repair part. It's ohms and watts and volts With test equipment on many tables And a weary Aviation Electrician That's forever chasing power cables. It's a little over-used jeep That lives its life exposed to the weather Then someone always asks, Why won't they hold together ? 7 It's a huiiin' and puiltin' tractor That's already laden with gear, Then sure as heck...35 tons of stovepipe Are hooked onto its rear. It's slow but reliable Tilley That wouldn't harm a Hea... 'cept maybe on occasion An in the way A3D It's a handful of technicians Plus a striker or two That cares for millions in equipment And their custody card too Its a Chute Loft thats always producing Those nec ssary items for all And we can t forget that Liquid Oxygen This really gives them a ball 9 1 . 7, ' KK S I , . . ,..-.. i. .a.- . a....t.... ' ':.wwva'w::.:H- '- -'-f - - ,gg U It's a Do-All saw and welding bench Compressed air, jacks and a jenny, It's a fix-it shop day or nightg These men have Work a-plenty It's a third deck compartment That has finally seen, After nearly two years, TILE to add to its sheen. It's an ARC-27 Installed here and there, BUSHIPS doesn't know it And please don't tell BUAER. It's a green-tinted loft High up in the blue With bells always ringing, Looking down on YOU! It's a clerical office And a Tech Library too, An AK ond a Yeoman And a boss that is new. It has many a tangent More yet unmentioned, ONE deserves comment: It can hurry your pension! Now you may have noticed After reading these verses It has not been necessary To resort to curses. It wouldn't be proper. It wouldn't sound well. And as someone once said, It sounds like HELL l So I've tried to define Without sounding like a prison That this is what's known As the V-6 Division!
