'Q HOLD EVERYTFIN On December 3rd, at 8 O p m the junior class of SHS under the direction of Mr Micklick, presented a three act comedy, FOLD EVERYTHING The play took place in the living room of Caroline Caruthers' tourist home on Honeymoon Trail, within a period of twenty four hours Connie Morgan and her friend 'Pee Williams left home because Conn1e's father wanted her to meet a business associate's son, Courtney Barret, Jr After Connie and 'Bee arrive at the tourist home, Connie has a guilty feeling and calls home only to find that her father is not at home and that his bank has been robbed Little does Connie know that the crooks are at the tourist home and so is her father Connie falls in love with a person she knows only as 'Humpty Dumptyu and he knows her as 'Alice in Wonderland W Alice finally tells Humpty Dumptyn all her troubles and they find, with her fathers help, that 'Humpty Dumpty' is Courtney Barret, Jr The robbers are caught by a detective that has been trailing them THE 'AST WAS AS FOLLOWS CAROLINE CARUTFEQS NIOPE CHRISTOPHER VORCAW CONNIE MORCAN BEF WILLIAMS COURTNEY BARRET, JR LOTTI WANDA TAISV STEVE ANDV TIM MACAULEY THE MILKMAN PIPES GIFFS CIFPS hotel proprietress! I 9 , Q 'A-x Q in 4: g A f THE 1952 FOOTBALL SEASON On August 25 27 nopaful candidates reoorted to John Wickstrom for stiff work outs The Tigers opened tue season September 12 5 Kingsley The Tigers returned victorious, after defeating Kingsley 19 O All through this game the fine spirit and teamwork of the team was prominent One week later the high spirited Tiger team met toe now erful Aurelia eleven on the Tiger gridiron for their first conference game After 8 action packed minutes of hard rough football, the two teams walked off the field with a 13 13 dead lock Many good points and many bad ones were brought out by this display of football Sutherland led by a score of 13 6 at the half time, but the kurelia power showed in tae second half by scoring once and holding the Tigers scoreless A crippled Tiger team took the field against the Bulldogs of Primghar the next week Working with the handicap of eight men of the first eleven still nursing injuries from the week before, the Tigers made a very poor showing The Tigers were only able to score once while Primgnar scored three times to beat the Tigers 19 6 team put on one of the best performances of tae season They neld the powerful unbeaten Hartley squad to three toucndowns while the Tigers made one Sutherland led early in the game by scoring in the first quarter Hartley then came back to even the count and go out in front by one point, they led at the half, 7 6 The final score was Hartley 21, Sutherland 6 The following week the Tigers journeyed to Sanborn to meet a powerful Bulldog team The Tigers scored first on a line plunge Sanborn roared back after the kick off to make the score 7 6 For the rest of the game it was a terrific defensive battle On the last play of the game a Sanborn back connected with a desperation pass and the Bulldogs won 12 7 On October 17, the Milford Pioneers came to Sutherland for the Homecoming game This game was a very well played game with Sutherland overpowering Milford by a 13 to O score This victory made the Homecoming a success After the victory over Milford, the Tigers were in high spirits The met the Alta Cyclones on the home field and beat them 21 in a very exciting game One of the exciting parts of the game was a sensational interception of a pass run back 96 yards for a Sutherland touchdown On the 31 of October, the Tigers invaded the Panther lair at Paullina The Panthers beat the Tigers by a score of 29 7 This was a very poor night for the Tigers after the first quarter In the first quarter Sutherland led by a 7 O score The last 3 quarters the team seemed to let down. An over confident Sutherland team took the field November 6 against a determined Sioux Rapids eleven. Sioux Rapids took the lead in the first quarter on a 95 yard run. The Tigers came back and led 7-6. Sioux Rapids scored twice more in the contest, one with only 20 seconds remaining in the game while holding the Tigers to one touchdown. 1 V E . HO ECO At 6 15 hursday evenin , the baserall field suddenly became alive wd h activity as the twenty seven nfighting igers' dumped the Pilford 'Pioneer in the blazing bonfire as they portrayed the traditions urder scene The pep band was on hand with 1usic to set the food Insnirina pep talks were given by Mr Robinson, t e hign school prin cipal, Mr Gentry, he music director, Janet Jensen, a hign school student, and Dwayne Wohlert, a member of the football squad The cheerleaders led severd. yells amd the evening w Q concluded as every one sang he school song, nFight on for Sutherland N Friday orning found the students rushing around put+ing the last minute touches to their floats and decorations At 9 3O the Homecom ing fes+iv'tieshegan once nore as 'he pep rally was opened with a first speaker, Father Cullen Then we heard fron two of our alumni, Clayton Hill, who told us a ew of his own experiences on the Tiger football squad, and John Powell, who spoke of Suthe land's football history After another zarcd from tke band, we neard from Coacn John Wickstrom and Jerry Jones Ever one predicted vit Off for L39 miS5tY 'Tigers The pep meeting was CODCl1d6d as the cheerleaders led the yells and the band played our school gong At approximately 3 15, the parade began at the schoolhouse consisted of the marching band in full uniform, the football squad and cheerleaders, the queen and her attendants, the eight floats Csenior, junior, spphomore, freshman, junior high, news staff, pep club, com mercial clubl, and the grade students, marching in their costumes or riding their ponies and decorated bicy les At 7 30 the floats were again paraded, this time around the foot ball field Mr Micklick announced the ratings over the public d dress stem The senior float, nWe'll Shine Tonightn, placed first, the sop omore float, Iron Em Out , was second, the Tiger Times' cov ered wagon, and the junior float, nWe'll Cook Their Goose 'ETed for third, and the freshman float, nshining to Xictory , placed fourth The band again entered the Homecoming activities as they paraded the queen, Marilyn Jenner, and her attendants around the football field and formed an honor guard as the king, Jim Chesley, joined her and they ascended to the throne where they were presented by the high school principal, Mr Robinson, to Mr Flinders, the president the school board Mr Flinders crowned them Queen Marilyn and King Jim, king and queen of Homecoming Her attendants were Charlotte Martin, Esther Triplett, Donna Litka, and Donna Gillespie The crown bearers were Loretta Jalas and Roger Gellhaus Eight o'c1ock saw the kickoff of the Sutherland nT1gers vs the Lilford nPioneersn football game Although both teams failed to score during the first half, the Tigers came back in the second half to score twice, making the final tally 13 O The victorious nTigers set a lively spirit for the Homecoming dance The beautifully decorated gymnasium also added to the atmos phere On the east wall was found a huge orange and black HOMECOUING sign Below it were arranged football shoes bearing the name of each player. On one side was found megaphones representing the cheerlead ers and on the other side, crowns of the royal family. Orange and black streamers formed a top. During the evening the royal family was again presented. King Jim presented Queen Marilyn with a dozen roses, after which the dancing was resumed. As Tommy Thomas and his orchestra played their theme song, everyone agreed that the l9S2 Homecoming was a success in every way. S . H . S . .
