1949 CLASS HISTORY In September 1945 the present Senlor Class entered Sussex Hxgh School eager to learn We organrzed the Class of 49 and elected the follow lng officers Presldent Rlchard Textor Vrce Pres rdent Leon Kantenu em Secretary Delores Sharpe Treasurer Ann Bahncy Mrs Jones con sented to be our class adviser After golng through and surusmg the ordeal of Freshman In1 tratxon we became full fledged members of Sussex I-Irgh School Although the Senlors d1d a xery thorough job on us we enjoyed rt as much as they drd Our class fund was stmrted wrth our share of the magazrne campaxgn At our frrst meetlng rn 1946 we selected the followmg ofhcers Presrdent anet Hurst Vlce Presrdent Bruce Frech Secretary Mary Case Treasurer Wnllram Bennet Our class advrser vsas Mr Pursell On November 78 1946 a Thanks grvmg dance was held 1n the gym Everyone came rn Hobo style It vxas a huge success and enjoyed by all In thrs year we chose our class colors as green and gold our motto as Onward Exer Backward Newer and our class flovxer as the yellow rose We became upper class men 1n our unxor year Our class ofhcers were as follows Presrdent Irene Grlman Vrce Presxdent Bruce Frech Secretary Phyllrs Boyd Treasurer Mary Case Mr Lombardn was our class aduser In the fall we sponsored a Hallovse en party at Lake Walkrll Our class rmgs were cho en early rn the fall and armed pr1or to the Christmas xacatxon A round and square dance was held ln the Gym on anuary 9 1947 A roller sleatmg partj was also held rn the spring Phyllis Boyd vsas elected to Grrls State and Bruce Frech and Charles Myslrnskl were elected to Boys State Our unror play A Gxrl Named Pat was produced on March 19 under the dlrectlon of Mr Lombardr Fmally we became sedate and somber Senlors A queer feelnng owercame all of us for we were 6 the ones who would set the example for the rest of the school to follow At our nrst meetmg the follomng people took office Presrdent Ronald Rellly Vrce Presrdent Phyllrs Boyd Secretary Betty Dutko Treasurer Mary Case Mr Lombardl was unammously chosen as class advrser In latc September the annual magazlne campalgn got under vtay The total result was S3 217 80 vhrch topped the PICYIOUS records Freshman Inltlatron was postponed due to lack of heat In the school Thrs gave us addltnonal trme to think of many more new stunts for the Freshmen to perform It was fmally held on October 22 a huge crovsd haung attended Again Mr Lombardl consented to help us mth the tremendous job of drrcctrng our class play Our Gal Sal Th1s play was put on for tvso Thus year a separate year book organrzatlon was formed Varrous members of the unror and Sen xor classes veere apponnted by the Student Councxl to perform the necessary duties connected wnth the tremendous job of producing a year book In Aprrl we held a jo1nt Senior unlor Prom nn SY Fmally the day had arrrved that we had looked forward to for so long In May we started on our class trlp to Washrngton D C Although rt vxas a brt trrxng we all enjoyed rt 1mmensely Then rn the latter part of une the Seniors gaxe a swh of rellef me had passed another mrlcstone nn lrfe The years spent rn Sussex High haxe left us wlth many memorles of the happy trmes vse had We haxe garned from those years an educatron that mll enable us to go on and push forward through other milestones rn lrfe We haxe oser come the obstacles that confronted us and hase remarned the vrctors Thus ends the hrstory of the Class of 49 ,f ' . , , . , J 3 v 9 .
