SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS March 20, 1970 To the Class of 1970: The quest for excellence and se 1 f - f u t f i 1 !men t is a never-ending journey. Yours is the first graduating class Co venture into the decade of the seventies, and yours represents the one-hundred and first class to be graduated from the Stoughton High School. To assume the traditions of history and to view clearly the demands of a rapidly advancing future are most important elements in your lives. To be aware of the impress of the knowledge explosion upon your generation and future generations is a vital task for you and for the Stoughton Public Schools. Certainly you have attained an education- al legacy which must be tested, improved upon and passed on to succeed- ing generations. For the betterment of your nation, your community and your personal lives, you must collectively and individually seek to maintain high and rational standards, along with a continuing sense of deep intellectual curiosity. Never cease to examine; never stop seek- ing ul t imate truth . While the attainment of a High School Diploma is a most sig- nificant event, an even more critical issue is the extent to which your invo 1 vemen t in and exposure to the educational experiences of the Stoughton Public School System has made you a better person. Hopefully, you have been prepared to participate actively and sensibly in our great democratic society. If you have developed a genuine concern for other people, then your diploma and your total educational experience have a really significant meaning. In closing, may I extend to each of you my best wishes for your future success and happiness. Sincerely. ■ ' Joseph H. Gibbons SupE. of Schools 91
