ROW 5: Brink, Logan, Franken, Kellogg, Stille, Schmitz, Daniels, Illum, Campbell. Speech Club Under the able leadership of President Kirk Bradley, Speech Club prospered this year. Meetings were held on Tuesdays with an average attendance of about thirty. Members enjoyed playing word games, such as Password and You Don't Say, and laughed at the widespread discomfiture when impromptu speeches were given . Charades furnished an entertaining evening also . Besides having fun, some worthwhile things were accomplished. The club ran the c-oat check after two home basketball games . Meetings provided encouragement and practice for contestants in the District and State Speech Contests . As a climax to the year, pi.ns were presented to all those receiving superior ratings at State . Others were given certificates for performances. V- in X ,Yr an Q N. Debate Resolved That Nuclear Weapons Should Be Controlled by an International Organization was the topic debated and discussed by the debate team this year. The members of the first team, Tom Schmitz, Laurie Triggs, Steve Lande, Tim Rundquist, and Barry Carnine represented the school in tournaments at Sioux City, Buena Vista College, Estherville, Marcus, and others. The other members of the squad participated in several debate tourna- ments and discussions at Paullina and Buena Vista College. The team qualified for the state tournaments by winning five and losing one, thus tying for first place also. At the state tournaments they won four and lost eight.
