The Man and the University n Homecoming at SFA was . . . — Mums and glittering purple ribbons and the sound of little cop- per bells — Shelly LaFour, the Homecoming Queen, in burgundy velvet and a sparkling tiara — Coming back to visit old haunts and friends, and to remember what college life was like. ... « ' Stephen F. Austin — The Man and the University was the theme for the 48th annual Homecoming at SFA October 29-30. In conjunc- tion with the school ' s activities Nacogdoches Mayor A. L. Mangham proclaimed Friday, October 29, as Lumberjack Day. Saturday dawned clear and cool, and the traditional Homecoming parade marched through downtown Nacogdoches, featuring 15 floats and 25 marching groups from throughout the area and began the day. Later, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost the afternoon football game to the Texas Lutheran College Bulldogs 35-18, bringing the Lum- berjacks ' season record to I -6- 1 . Shelly LaFour, Anahuac senior, was crowned 1976 Homecoming gueen during halftime activities. Susan Rorhbach, Houston senior, was the Lady-in-waiting.
