Theology Dept. an Example for Dthers SL Rita has the best theology department of any other high school in the city of Chicago, says Mr. Zimmerman, the author of several texts concerning theology. Mr. Zimmerman often sends his texts to St. Rita to have them reviewed by the Theology Department, said Br. Charles Prevender, chairman of the Theology Depart- ment. We at St. Rita read Mr. Zimmerman's books and criticize the book as we see fit. Mr. Zimmerman receives the criticism gratefully. Br. Charles agreed that the Theology Department at St. Rita is very well coordinated. There were no major changes since last year except for the addition of Fr. Van Overbeek and Br. Chis Howe. Thus, Br. Charles doesn't feel that he can take full credit for the great organization. At our department meetings, commented Br. Charles, I don't make any major decisions. We vote on everything together. Br. Charles feels that the Theology Department meshes well with the Christian Formation Department. Fr. Murphy and Br. Charles, being very good friends, are able to talk things over and make the two departments work well together. We in the Theology Department teach the students theology and the Christian Formation office gives the students a chance to practice their religion, said Br. Prevender. Br. Charles sees next year as remaining basically the same. l'm satisfied with the organization as it stands this year. Why change something that is already good? 1. Theology Department Chairman Br. Charles Prevendar is in his fourth year and teaches Theology ll. He received his B.A. from St. Xavier and is Sub Prior of the St. Rita Monastery. 2. Fr. Pat Murphy is in his fourth year at St. Rita and teaches Theology IV. Fr. Murphy received his B.A. from Villanova and is the Vice-Principal of Christian Formation.

New Teachers Make Job Easy for Chairman This has been a very good year for the department and myself as well, stated English Department Chair- man Dr. Donald Racky. lt was a much better year than last because the new teachers that were hired for 1981-82 school year have been much stronger and more competent than those in years past. Many people doing little things have helped Dr. Racky have a smooth year and lessen the burden of being department chairman. He also says that the at- mosphere ofthe student body has made teaching a little easier. Mainly, the one thing that made this a good year for Dr. Racky was the involvement and commitment of the teachers and the students. The teachers have become more involved in helping the students perform better and the students have gotten serious about their work and their attitude toward school, Dr. Racky added. Next year, the department will become more stable since no new teachers will need to be hired. This will lessen Dr. Racky's burden even more since he will not have to explain the demands of the department and try to break in new teachers. 1. English Department Chairman Dr. Donald Racky is in his twenty- third year at St. Rita and teaches the Honors English I, ill, and IV classes. 2. In her fourth year at St. Rita, Ms. Sally Zepeda teaches English I and ll and SpeechlDrama. 3. Mr. Tim Scanlon teaches English I and Developmental Reading. He received his B.A. from St. Xavier and is the Assistant Cross-Country Coach. ii 2l at if s,,...
