Mrs. Mildred R. Copeland Ffzrzzlfy Adzfjfor A lively discussion on advertising, Linda Duggan, Judy Pinnell, Connie Carpenter, Carolyn Powell, Jeanne Moore and Norma Warner. Carolyn Barfield, Dorothy Stanley, Rachel Farmer, Pat Morrison and Annette Head relax while they discuss circulation problems. Dear Reader, The aim of the SUR- SUM CORDA staff has been to put into black and white, in picture and in words, some of the memories of 1959 cherished by all the stu- dents. This annual has been as fondly thought of as a child, causing pain, keeping us up nights, asking for sponsors and advertisersg forever get- ting out of hand at times, yet having days of closeknit cooperation when all things ran smoothly. It has made us un- happy at times, frantic at others, but has made us unanimously proud of our task now that it is completed. And so it is our pleasure to present to you SURSUM CORDA 1959. . as 66 gl'0Wl .fwhgfesv tv Exteriorly they are a group of well groomed, composed young ladies, but knowing their in- ner thoughts would completely change your opinion. Fresh out of high school, young, im- pressionable, still true selves, they apprehensively transcend from the secure worlds of family and life long friends, to enter the alluring unknown world of nursing. The time moves swift- ly and they are caught in the whirl of new responsibilities, rules, regulations and undreamed of searches for knowledge. They are eager to please, and strive to assert themselves to this new life. It seems only a matter of days before their ambition is realized, and the much awaited day of capping arrives., In the striped dresses covered with spotless, starched aprons and bibs, they walk down the church aisle, kneel while the revered symbol of nursing is placed- on their heads, and then, in unison, they fervently repeat the Nightingale pledge. On this day they truly fee! likes nurses. Over the years, elations, disappointments, hard work and determination to succeed, change these frightened, unsure girls into serene, certain, poised ladies. They make their second trip down the church aisle dressed in the all-white Lmiform which designates their profession. Today they are nurses. And what are they thinking? Thank you, dear God, for in Your goodness you have made me a nurse. In Your mercy, give me the strength to be a shining example of my chosen profession, and never let me forget that in caring for others, I have the wonderful privilege of nursing You.
