St. Patrick's High School of Berlin ended Somersworth's l6-game winning streak at Plymouth by a score of 5 to l to annex the Class M championship of the Granite State. Paul Hennelly, Somersworth's starting pitch- er, walked the first three men to face him. Ted Fauteaux, St. Patrick's star, drove in three runs on a long double down the right field line. Dave Bilodeau scattered five Somersworth singles over the seven inning route while his mates annexed two more in- surance runs. There were many outstanding individual achievements during the regular season. Nor- man Ferland, a junior, set an all-time record for batting as he collected 27 hits in 5l of- ficial times at bat for a 529.4 batting average. Other 400 hitters were Paul Hen- nelly, a junior, and Roderick Ferland, a freshman. One-hit, no-run games were re- corded for three pitchers, Norman Ferland, Paul Hennelly, and Donald Veno. The 34-2 score against St. John's of Concord was one of the greatest displays of power hitting ever recorded in Somersworth. Coach Rowell's three-year record now reads: 36 victories, 6 defeats, and l tie - p,i1obably the best in the state of New Hamp- s ire. Coach Rowell presented the Southeastern League trophy as well as the state Class M Runner-up Trophy to Principal Hibbard at the annual Awards Assembly. Each letter- man received gold baseballs, symbolic of the league championship, and silver balls, the runner-up prize in Class M.
