Mrs. Barbara Henderson Mrs. Dorothy Riddle Mrs. Nancy Binford Mrs Elsie Reid A English Miss Betsy Rogers Patricia Steimer: In teaching when you perform well, a few kids may learn to write better than they did before or think more clearly and critically than they did before. They know it and that,s about it. The system rewards all teachers equally-when pay raises are voted through, everybody gets them. Why would anybody in his right mind be a teacher? The thing thatls right with teaching as a job is this: kids' hopes, dreams, aspirations and abilities, your own ideas, interests, dreams, and skills, the system, the establishment, the ulti- mate way human beings bunched up in institu- tions paw on one another Sometimes the changes are right there in front of you waving their hands in your face saying, I understand, I know, I can do itll' Other times the changes take place so gradually that you despair of their ever happening. But the changes continue to unfold year after year keeping lyou young and alive. W o wants to be in his right mind, anyway? Nancy Binford: There are two levels of posi- tive interactions for me at Sanderson. One is the rare but gratifying experience of an entire class grasping some pre- viously unrealized mean- ing or lpoint of view. The ot er, which I also enjoy, is the frequent, personal friendships which develop between teacher and student. Patsy Stone: I have found that working with the young people at Sand erson has been ver chal- lenging and rewarding. I am depending on their Mag youth, enthusiasm, and energy to rescue me from the epression of old age! S.
