TWO! Jack Ruggles executes a beautiful jump shot from his forward position despite a determined Tampa player ' s attempt to block it. Chick Bezemer, the Tar ' s all-star center, readies for a possible rebound. HOLD IT! Lee Martindale goes up for that important rebound but finds the going a little tough as a Ken- tucky V esleyan player comes down with the ball. Other Tar players visi- ble are Chick Bezemer and Dick Bishop. THE TIP OFF! The camera catches Rollins ' Biq Bob Shuder leaping way up there as the Tars host the Tampa five. Seen ready to receive it are Chick Bezemer on the far side and Freshman whiz Dick Bishop on the near side.

THE TARS SPANISH DELEGATION LED BY EMILIO LEBOLO, FRED CULLERY AND MARIO VEGA MANAGE TO GIVE JACKSONVILLE A LESSON IN SOCCER. Tars Take It All; Cop State Trophy THE ROLLINS Soccer team led by Coaches McKean, Hellwege and Justice completed its second year of inter-collegiate competition with a brilliant record of five wins and only one loss. The climax ol the season from the standpoint of tension as well as out- standing playing on the part of both teams was the memorable game be- tween arch rival Stetson and the Tars on the victor ' s home field. Rollins emerged victorious -2 with Co-Captain Dennv Learned scoring three goals. However, the highlight of the game centered around the crowd ' s over- enthusiasm as both sides engaged in an old-fashioned free for all. The Tars were aided considerably by the addition this year of two fresh- men, Fred Cuillery and Desi Csonger, plus the usual consistency of Ed Flory, Emilio Lebolo and Roberto Muvdi. 1 WILLIS, TARS FLASHY HALFBACK, ELUDES F.S.C. PLAYER. RAH! STETSON ROOTERS IN ACTION. THEY CHOKED ON THEIR OWN WORDS, THOUGH, AS THE MIGHTY HATTERS LOST THEIR BRIMS, 5 TO I.

Tar Five Improves With tlic return of Rollins ' All-Conference, All-State Chick Bezemer for his final year at pivot, the Tar Five proved to be a tough bunch in all opposition. This year ' s Dan Nymicz-coached basket-ball team was better balanced than in previous years, and their quality of play certainly improved because of it. Bezemer ' s shooting and rebounding left little to be desired. Big Bob Schuder ' s steady game often gave Chick a much-needed rest, (ark Rubles ' bullet-like jump shots from all over the court branded him a threat inside or out, while Gary Gabbard ' s classy dribbling and playmaking, Boyd Coffie ' s driving lay-ups. and Lee Martin- dale ' s sound play gave Rollins a formidable guard combination. Several freshmen added to this year ' s squad included Dick Bishop, Bob Griffith, Jerry Beets, John Ladakakos, Jim Brown and Claude Crook. Of these, Dick Bishop and Bob Griffith were men to be watched in coming years. Bishop ' s wide variety ol shots and court savvy earned him a starting birth from the very beginning. His scoring touch rated second only to Bezemer ' s. Griffith ' s cool head and outside set shots decided the outcome oi several games. The 1957-58 Tars played a 24-game schedule. 12 oi them being Florida Intercollegiate Basketball Conference games. The season started with Florida Southern on December 2nd and wound up with traditional rival Stetson on February 18th. From the tip-off to the final buzzer, it was exciting. The upset over powerful Miami . . . that 80% shooting average in the first quarter against the University of Florida . . . Chick ' s 33 points against Mercer . . . yes, a season to be remembered. THE FREE THROW! On tip-toes. Tar guard Boyd Coffie keeps his eye on the bucket as the ball softly arches into the air. Rollins ' forward, Jack Ruggles, is seen standing in the background. 133
