Raymo, Davitt, Colwell JUNIOR SPEAKERS GUILD NE of the more recently formed activities of Regis High, the Junior Speakers Guild, has carried on its work this year under the direction of Mr. Karl Manhardt, S.J, This organization consists of nine of the better speakers of Junior year who deliver prepared addresses on some topic of current interest to Catholics before audiences ot Catholic schools, Holy Name Societies and other organizations throughout the city. John Beccari Allen Cameron Francis Dignam Robert Johann Alexander Mazzia Lawrence Mannion HOMERIC ACADEMY OWN through the centuries, the Homeric poems, the representative works of one of the greatest geniuses the world has known, and embodying Such literary perfection as to remain the unequalled examples of the natural epic, have been preserved and transmitted. These poems have been studied and loved by men of all ages, and it has been the primary purpose of the Homeric Academy to instill in its members some appreciation of the pure serene ot the Blind Bard. Meeting twice weekly, the six members of the Academy, with their Mod- erator, Mr. Walsh, S.J., would translate outstanding passages in the lliad of Homer, and then would discuss the beauties and structure of the Homeric poems, and of epic poetry in general, These meetings were conducted with an eye towards the Public Symposium of l94l , held in May. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate before representatives of the faculties and stu- dents of universities, colleges and high schools in and about the Metropolitan area, the ability of the high school student to appreciate and understand to some degree the greatest work of Greek Literature.
