V Front row: Saenger, W. Hinchliff, and Black. Second row: Mr. Eastman, Lewis, Dye, Both, Goodale, and Herrick. The Basketball Season 0f1936 Despite the few victories, the basketball season was more successful than it may appear. Spirited playing in every game showed that, although the poorer team, we were not beaten without a struggle. Several of the major games were lost, but, in some cases, only by very slight margins. The two games with Providence Country Day proved to be the only two victories of our basketball season. Both games were easily won and at no time in them was the team faced with any severe obstacle. St. George's seemed to have us well in hand in the first game, but was nearly overcome in the second. Leading by eight comfortable points at the half, Pomfret returned to the Hoor only to fall victim to St. George's spirited rally. Aside from two long shots made by Dye, the home team was unable to keep up with the St. George's team in the second half. Although Pomfret managed to hold the visitors down to a minimum of scoring, St. George's won by the close score of 24-19. Tabor Academy dealt with us in the same fashion as St. Georges In the first game of our scheduled season, Tabor just managed to beat us 25-23. Tabor maintained a lead' throughout the game but a six point drive in the fourth period barely fell short of victory for Pomfret. In the second game, the last of our season, Tabor showed considerable improvement by winning a 33-20 victory. At a meeting of the lettermen, Robert Saenger was chosen as Captain for the 1937 season. Saenger has played on the squad for three years and his playing ability and leadership earned him the captaincy. George Muehleck, Jr. was elected to succeed Herrick as manager of the team.
