He is Kaare Jostein Svartveit, or more commonly known as John. John comes from Bergen, Norway through the American Field Serv- ice Program. When John arrived at Peoria High, he found many different things. A palm tree was something new to John and so was the game of basketball. While learning about P.H.S. students, John told them of his home life in Norway. He told his stories through many folk songs. 'The Norwegian student made many friends with the students and faculty. John went through the daily life of a P.H.S. student, ready to leam something new all the time. We hope John has enjoyed his stay in Peoria as much as we en- joyed him being here. The Annual Staff, in behalf of the students, would like to wish him luck on his trip back to Norway and his fu- ture. -13.. Senior Class Prophecy PANTHER U. S. A. Somewhere in an isolated place in Arizona there is a community made up of Peoria High School graduates. The population is 59-60 counting cowboy Hickman's horse. We shall call this community Panther, U. S. A. Panther is a rather strange community because it supplies the various occupations of these grads. In Panther you may find Bill Bliss designing air- planes for the Air Force where Major Occhiline is in command. If you need anything designed or built around the house, Richard Bliss and Reg Horton can be found on any beatnik corner. Pat Murphy is their cashier. He collects all the money for the jobs. Speaking of beatniks, you may find Ruth Heinz in- terviewing Pete Cervantes, the professional beatnik. Miss Heinz's next editorial will probably be on the life of a beatnik. Since farming is very popular in Panther, Jerry Meeker and Arnold Muller work together trying to put newfangled ideas into the farmer's heads. The Burns Boys and Farmer Downard think they know all there is to know about fanning, however. Panther has a real estate man, too. I see Essley is still trying to swindle the poor folk out of land. Panther's only policeman, Art Jones, has a steady job. His job usually consists of protecting .the pretty secretaries. Edna Mae Myers is secretary for the Beebe- Espinoza Goof-off Co. Io Ellen Spears is secretary for the Sergent-Wilson Better Baking Co. If anyone ever gets hoof and mouth disease or some- thing like that, they just phone in and the receptionist, Lupe Translavina, tells Doc Price or Doc McCann. Soon they are right over with their trusty nurses, Judy Dorris and Pat Elder. Everyone in Panther likes to gossip on the telephone so it takes a lot of people to run two telephone com- panies. Margaret Leon is president of one company on one end of town, Lupe Amarillas is her vice president, and Liz Mothershed is their rivate secretary. Emma Corbin takes care of the switchboard. Beatrice Archuleta is president of the company on the other side of town. joy Swartz is her vice president and Lorel Borck is the operator. They often get into scraps about which com- pany does 'the most business. Then Art Jones has to step in and straighten things out. Ginger Caldwell is the only one in Panther who has enough brains to teach. She has to divide her time be- tween business college and regular college. In morning she has two ardent pupils, Norma Romo and Linda Lackey, in business college. In the afternoon she tries to drill a little knowledge into David Smith, Paul Whee- lock, Nellie Soto, and Margaret Vasquez. Panther, like all thriving cities, has its sports heroes. In football it is Stuart Shannon. In basketball it is Ysidro Gutierrez. And in baseball there is Hosey Delk. Panther has a cafe. It is called the Green and Gold Cafe. There is a band and jim Berk is the main attraction with his drums. They sometimes have entertainment in the form of Shakespearean plays. Wayne Essary plays the part of Brutus very well. The Green and Gold Cafe is really a beautiful place. Darrell Vest and Gary Herndon really fixed the place up. But sometimes it gets pretty rough when Navy man Duane Posey and truck driver Richard Deen start living it up. Then in rushes the extra Doc, Iohn Svartveit and Tommy Lynch, the carpenter, to patch things up. Roy Villanueva keeps the local rods filled with go- juicev and everything in running order. Delma Iackson runs the local hair-fix-itv Shoppe. She gets all the latest gossip from the town I. B. M. oper- ator, Mary Lou Napoleon. Nancy Ahrenburg and Princess Dikes McNeal are now happily married and trying to support their hus- bands. Good luck, girls. Jerry Stone runs the general store in Panther. Be- tween selling his stale cans of beans and other odds and ends for the farm he is the richest man in town. In Panther there is one bookkeeper, Mary Louise Price. Since there isnit much of any one business, her job is to keep the whole townfs books straight. Well, that about winds up a short rundown on the various odd jobs in Panther, U. S. A. By the way, guess who the citizens of Panther put on the Presidential ticket this year? Why, Mr. T. I. Turney. Who else? -16.- l O 9 O MM swf-W' J! jf vi W Wim fffff 5355- K ff if fy NN fd 1 K K k ... CHAMPIONS FOOTBALL WAS A SOURCE of pride to Peoria High School students this year. Our Panthers rode high to an 8 won, I loss record, and a 6 won, no loss record in A North Conference play to win the Championship. After a 7-6 loss to Phoenix Christian in the opening game the Panthers bulled their way through 8 foes, averaging 30.6 points per game and giving up only 6.4 per game. Team unity, good leadership and tremendous desire was credited for the team's success.
