In the fall a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of football. So it came as no surprise to Penn fans to see 22 year old Ronald Meyer, former defensive backfield coach at Purdue, running along the sidelines in his shirtsleeves in freezing weather, advising and hollering encouragement to his players. Whether he ever froze out there is not known. However, it is known that his team didn't. They were nhot' most of the time in com- piling a 5-4-1 record against some of the toughest teams in the state. Heading Meyer's squad through this profitable year were co-captains Phil Hakes and Larry Hough. The season was capped by the naming of senior Don Green- ing as MVP and Dave Risner, a junior, Most Im- proved Player at the Fall Sports Banquet. Coach Ward will be the head coach of the ,65 Kingsmen. In their third home contest of the season the PHS gridders literally ran over Goshen, compiling 350 yards on the ground in a 35-18 swamping of the Red- skins. A two game road trip ended with less desirable results the next two Fri- days, however. New Carlisle's unbeaten Tigers fought our Kingsmen to a 7-7 deadlock, missing a last second Held goal attempt, and Clay was even less amiable using a late 40 yard touchdown run to topple the Pennmen 7-0. We resumed the win trail with a come from behind 20-13 victory over St. Joseph, Michigan on Freed Field the following week and then added to that a 26-l9 dumping of once powerful Richmond. The Kingsmen raced for over 300 yards in toppling the Red Devils. We closed the season on an unhappy note, as the state's No. 1 team, South Bend St. Joseph, made our gridders their tenth straight victims in a 34--0 conquest after they had led by only 640 at the end of a hard fought first half.
