1 Pirates zero in on S. W. Player. PIRATES WIN OPENER Sept. 22, '61 Paseo opened a hopeful season with an impressive 20-0 victory over Lincoln on the East field. Guided by the signal calling of spinner- back, Jerry Porter, the Pirate offense moved very well. Paseo showed its running ability early in the first quarter by march- ing 56 yards in nine plays to score. Jerry Porter capped the drive on an 8 yard run around right end. Paseo bogged down and was unable to score again until the third quarter. Jerry Porter slipped into the end zone for the extra point. Another touchdown by lVIcCoy was nullified because of a penalty. ' In the final quarter, Laurie Carter took a Tiger fumble 34- yards to the Lincoln 5. Porter then scored the third Pirate tally. lVIack Harnden scored the extra point on a pass from Leroy Tombs to complete the scoring. I .Iim Davis Sr. Guard 2nd letter VAN HORN UPSETS PASEO Sept. 29, '61 The inspired Falcons, under the leadership of ex-Paseo coach, Bill Fessler, found their first victory since midseason, 1959, by a score of 19-12. Paseo opened the scoring early in the first quarter when Leroy Tombs connected with end Mack Harnden from eighteen yards out. Van Horn managed to hit pay dirt before half time, tying the score at 6-6. The second half was dominated by the Falcons with a tough defense and determined offense. Gerald Johnson put the Falcons ahead on runs of 51 and 2 yards. Paseo's final touchdown came on a 3 yard run by Jim Davis with one minute remaining.
