Could I see the schedule book? “I don't know what I have today. “Can you tell me the CEEB code? May I have a pass to class? Is this an A, B, C, or D day?” The person most capable of helping out with all of the above is our friend, Mrs. Rice. Mrs. Rice has assumed the position of H.S. guidance office secretary since October 1972 when, five weeks into the school year, she stepped in to fill the vacancy created by a retirement. During our research we found out more about this lady. In June 1940, then known as Ruth Smith, Mrs. Rice graduated from Oxford Academy Central School. Throughout high school she was In sports, glee club, class plays, and served her class as treasurer and secretary. After four years at OACS, Mrs. Rice furthered her education at a business school in Binghamton. Before coming to OACS she was employed in the local area and also raised four children. Written in the 1940 Blackhawk characterizing Mrs. Rice was the following: Smitty is sweet, al- ways ready to smile, her dark eyes were made the boys to guile. We, the class of 1986, take great pleasure in dedicating our yearbook to Mrs. Rice. We would like to thank her for all the time and devotion that she has contributed to the student body for so many years. The educational program at Ox- ford High would have suffered without her help in tying up the loose ends. 2 Dedication
