VEL UIIE INCREASED POPULATION REQUIRED NEW CAFETERIA Because of the increased population at Domeland, We were forced to invent bigger eating accommodations. ln the Spring of 1957, the space under the Dome was cleared, resulting in the loss of such landmarks as the rifle range and the journalism files. While Redskins were vacationing, workmen were busy trying to meet the Septem- ber deadline. Construction was completed in Oc- tober, and the cafeteria was initiated by students at an after-game dance. The third floor cafeteria Was used the final time before school closed for teachers' convention, after which North Siders enjoyed eating lunch in a dream school cafeteria. Flowers and Words of congratulations were me- mentoes of the opening. Page 9
