Girls' athletics plays by CIF rules this year Newbury Park High's Varsity Volleyball team has had a trying season. As they are now competing under CIF rules, competition is stronger, and tension is heavier. Although the team had no wins up until the second-round play-offs, their spirit was not dampened, and they went on to defeat Camarillo triumphantly. Cheering the team on from the sidelines was Coach Marti Dibble, a third year teacher at our school. Receiving awards for outstanding playing this year were Yolanda Guerrero and Nanci Downing, who both made the Marmonte League All-Star team. Yolanda Guerrero also received the Most Valuable Player award for the second year in a row, as she was the team high scorer and most inspirational player on the court. Nancy Getman was awarded Most Im- proved Player for her effort and stamina. Coach Marti Dibble Coach Nori Parvin The lunior Varsity Volleyball team has had a season of victory, but also a season of defeat. With a 2-8 record, the girls on the team worked hard developing their skills. Along with their coach, Nori Parvin, the team members stayed after school until 6:30 p.m. practicing their bumps, spikes and sets. The high scorer on the l.V. team was Cathy Paterson, with a total of 55 points in 10 matches. Theresa Hagman, who was always hustling on the court, won a trophy for being the Most Valuable Player on the team.
