With a word of encouragement, praise, or wise counsel, as the occasion demands, he has helped many to complete their high school education. MRS. REEFA McGUFFIN, General Supervisor So many people appreciate the talents of Mrs. McGuffin that it ' s impossible for us to keep her with us much. She has one of those rare personalities which prove attractive to everyone, always smiling when it does the most good. MR. W. L. KIRBY, JR. Principal The principal of a school might well be compared to a general marshalling his army for battle. In the longest battle of mankind ' s history, that against ig¬ norance and intellectual suppression, the only truly effective weapon is universal education. For five years since the founding of our school, Mr. Kirby has been in the foremost ranks of the forces of knowledge. His guiding hand has been of inestimable value in shaping the school policy and in the enrichment of its pro¬ gram. A person of many talents, Mr. Kirby has time and again demonstrated his versatility in all fields. He has used these gifts in the best interest of the youth of Nelson County High. 22
