Not only did sophomores en- counter a new name for their old junior high homerooms, now described as advisor bases, but within these bases were those con- fusing little white cards. For the sophs who didn't understand the purpose of advisor base attendance, the cards were merely a waste of ink in already half-dried pens. Some even found that they made pretty good paper airplanes at the end of each successive month. Part of the confusion stemmed from the fact that the explanations for the cards were often forgotten. Eventually, the cards were a benefit to Mrs. Kleffman and the co- workers at the attendance window. But for many students, it was a rush making it into those first five minutes of the day to sign their little white card. Attendance was being more con- fined to advisor bases rather than at the attendance window, as the bases became blue-slip stations . Absenses were reported to the office the day before by a parent's or guar- dian's phone call. Blue slips were sent to the advisor base for them to pick up upon their return. This greatly reduced the long lines at the attendance window each morning. J IMC, cafe, other are typical questions facing loAnn Lick and other students every morning in advisor base. Instead of being assigned to a study hall, students had the option of where they wanted to spend their free time. Sophomores 207
