ff: FN? 1455 x qfzfe gbfessmer QPU!! Baolfk-1,5-ET xsflm-g W -A THE REVEREND E. Goamzr. FOREWORD Trails, whaT queer Things They are! Did you ever con- sider whaT a world oT symbolism They embody? Hilaire Belloc Tells us: TT is The Road which deTermines The siTes oT many ciTies and The growTh and nourishmenT oT all. IT is The Road ThaT gives iTs Trameworlc To all economic developmenT. IT is The Road which is The chan- nel oT all Trade, and, whaT is more imporTanT, OT all ideas. And so iT is ThaT Class '30 has chosen The line. WE SEEK NEW TRAILS. To convey iTs message and porTray iTs symbol. The highway spells eTerniTy. As iT rolls on in iTs never- ending course iT perpeTuaTes The ThoughT OT ending Time. ln This manner The Trail TypiTies one phase of educaTion --The spiriTual. Highways recall soldiers Tramping along roads oT sTone, monumenTs To ancienT engineers. As The road is pushed Torward we visualize The spread oT learning. VasT cara- vans plod slowly along carrying The lore OT The easT To The wesT: bringing all The miliTary skill of The wesT To The easT. ln This manner roads porTray The second branch of educaTion-The culTural. The power oT The road iTselT, as iT carries daily enor- mous loads. is imprinTed on our mind. We realize ThaT we are viewing a picTure oT physical power, and This connoTes The Third parT oT educaTion-physical develop- menT. Thus, in simple Terms, The Trails we soughT aT lvlessmer broadened us culTurally, developed us physically, guided us spiriTually, Truly making man more manly, woman more womanly. and The land more godly.

i, 47:5 Cf: ai rj ltw --W gffessmer gina!! i3o0T'k-Z,-'TEN is-5, P Uwe Met on Trails oi Learning g lT was Tour years ago ThaT TirsT we meT. We were sTrangers Then, mere neophyTes sTarTing on a new educaTional Trail. Looking back on The Tour years, iusT one Thing seems To be Tirmly em- bossed on our memories. ThaT single memory is The lvlessmer TaculTy. Freshmen, Then, we were sorely in need oT guidance. BuT wiTh The aid and Triendship oT The pioneer TaculTy, The TransiTional period was easily passed. The liTTle kindnesses, The small courTe- sies eased our selT-conscious eTTorTs. Likewise, They incorporaTed in our characTers, ThaT spiriT oT reverence, ThaT True devoTion oT every CaTholic journeyman on liTe's Trail. WiTh a loeauTiTul delicacy, They guided our iuvenile romances in clean wholesome channels. ln TacT, as we recall, Their liTTle counsels seemed a l:niT prudish. The days spenT aT Messmer have some- whaT dulled The edge oT our conceiT. We admiT now ThaT They were righT. Then came Sophomore days. Gradually, we broadened inTellecTually, grew spiriTually, and developed physically. We were iusT a biT more Tirmly enTrenched in high school ways. Junior days Tollowed swiTTly, and on Their heels, came The serious Time oT Senior year. ThaT marks The close oT our High School liTe. Through iT all, The help oT our TaculTy Triends has alTered correspondingly as our needs changed. As The end approaches, we review wiTh a clear mind The happenings oT The.Tour years. To say a mere Thank you To The TaculTy would be cold, cruel. To hold high, on l.iTe's Trail, The True sTandards oT a Messmer graduaTe would pesT express our living graTiTude.
