refs- W' Activities TWISTER learly confusing. CSE meeting 6102130 on Tues. JSA forum after school Fri, MUN guest speaker CQ 7 p.m. Wed. Pep Club roller skating party Sat. International Club roller skating party Sat. Ethnic Cultural Club roller skating party Sat. Talk about mind-twisting! The announcements filter through the oh-good-l'm-almost-awake mentality of second period. Futile pleas to repeat the previous sentence ring in the air as frantic pencils fly across scraps of paper. Do this Monday. Do that Thursday. For those that play the Activities Game, the weeks gradually become straight flushes-all clubs. IABOVE LEFTP Karen Heywood wonders where everyone went at the halftime performance of the Flag team. lABOVE RIGHT? ASB members, the backbone of our school, lead the way at the Student Council meeting. IRIGHTD Kathy Geivett, Whitney Morris, and Dana Kusakabe of the Drill Team get down on their knees to perform for students at MIHS. I 62 ACTIVITIES Sorting out one's hand can befuddle even the sharpest player. Some may have to balance three or four clubs, others may concentrate on just a few. Some may join just to pad college applications, others may work for the good of the school. Going to meetings, raising funds, organizing functions-the responsibilities of participating in a specific activity can twist one' schedule all out of shape. Right foot on drill team. Left hand on chess club. However, the business of a few soon becomes the pleasure of many. The MI Harlequins enrich our cultural tastes. The Mercer Hi Times educates and advises and makes us laugh. The Flag Team provides us with many moments of entertainment, and the Pep Club makes sure we enjoy them with pride. And the Annual staff? Well, the just have a lot of fun. So does everyone who samples c the many and varied activities offered at MIHS. A club meeting may not match General Hospital, but the confusion of afterschool gatherings reaps great dividends in terms of friendships and experiences. They may strain one body. They may twist one's mind. But boy, are they fun! ij. f -YW., .c ,,,,, .,,,,. ...... , - VW if

Then you must not be a member of the Art Club, established in October of l985 to promote the visual arts within the school and the community When questioned about the Art Club, member Katrina Orwick shakily answers, Not now, I NEED a Diet Coke! President Hans Ballard, on the other hand, replies, l'Quote? O.K.l Fighting for peace is like . . . Thanks, Hans, but we'll cut you off there. Nevertheless, the Art Club has little time for LOUNGE-ing around.
