TI-IE LCG Cl: 1953 ...HUP Iune 2, 1933 To the Ofllcers and Crew of the Good Ship. Class of '33 :-- The sailing time has now arrived--hoist anchor, and set sail on your life's voyage, I regret that these orders must be given, for I have come to know you well in your sojourn at the home port. However, I know that you are now well prepared to weather the dangers of the open sea further training would only be irksome, you are eager for the strong winds, the dashing of the spray, the rise and fall of the ship of life. Since it seems best you embark, let me advise you in your course. Set a definite goal -a port with good harbor as your aim in life's voyage. Set your sails so wind or gale cannot drive you from this course. Let me quote McAllister's, The Set of a Soul . 'One ship drives east and another drives west With the selfsame winds that blow: 'Tis the set of the sails And not the gales Which tell us the way to go. l,ike the winds of the sea are the ways of fate As we journey along through life: 'Tis the set of a soul That decides its goal, And not the calm or the strife. Yours respectfully. xfj Admiral. Sailing Orders to Ship Class of '33 . THE LOG OF 1953 10
