TENNIS has a successful year, plansjbr the future This year's tennis team was a very pleasant surprise. The Bullpup netmen had the first out- standing season that McPherson had experienced in many years . Paced by senior lettermen Kenny Bechtel, Larry Reiswig, and Bob Hill, the Pups opened the seasonwith afirst place trophy at the Hutchinson Quadrangular. Falling to third place at the Salina Quadrangular, they quickly re- bounded by sweeping the Hutchinson-B C8-lj, Salina Q5-45, and Emporia Q7-21 duals. Then the duelwith the ever-powerful C . K . L. champs ,l Jun c t io n City Bluejays, ended in a disaster for the Bullpups, who were humiliated 9-0, fthe worst showing all year.J At the an- nual C.K.L. meet, the Bullpups placed fourth behind Junction City, Manhattan, and Salina. The Pups fin i s he d only one point out of third place. Kenny Bechtel and Lane Bomberger played outstanding ball throughout the meet for the Pups. ln the regional tournament, McPherson was represented by Larry Reisweg, Kenny Bechtel, Lane Bomberger, Dana Sammer, Bob Hill, and Danny Vance. Next year should also be a good one for the McPherson tennis squad, as two two -year let- termen and a bevy of underclassmen return. Junior Lane B o m b e r g e r powers one over the net.
