The Daily Other. The only small-college daily newspaper east of the Mississippi The Daily Other is something else. It is the only small- college daily newspaper east of the Mississippi, and the only college newspaper that knows how to spell mostaccioli. Published five days a week, rain or shine, by the Journalism program, edited and managed by a staff of 30 students, the Other reports on and reflects the concerns of the campus, from soccer to safaris, freshman experience to food fights, boycotts to basketball. Its pages present protests, praises, puns, menus, casts, sales, resignations of deans and student government presidents, mesmerizing editorials, intermina- ble letters, tantalizing typographical errors, occasional weather reports, IM logos, hub cups, lowbrow cartoons, highbrow illustrations. It sponsored, and then postponed, Bow Tie Day in honor of President Wittich ' s tenth anniver- sary as president. Staff members dressed up, down and sideways for the semiannual parties at the Metcalfs. Top left: L. Jones and D. Blanchette working to meet a press deadline. Top right: D. Blanchette also known as Chip Shots preparing another witty article for his column. Right: Even the Daily Other staff had their own Toga party. We think that Dr. Metcalf looks the best. 102
