Yeah, wefre young, but definitely not inex- perienced. 1 i g 1 The Unknown Viking. Twin starting efforts were shared by the Varsity and the JV Baseball teams this year, as both initially showed their skill in their sport. Varsity seemed to be a quite young team, with more juniors than seniors, and with a few excelling sophomores. Pitcher Scott Morehouse and infielder Greg Gibbs led the fighting and furious pack on its course for DAL placing. Two tough recruits from Bellar- mine, Todd Branon and Dave Barrera, along with the rest of the team, packed a fan- tastic team with a promising future. Since HEN Varsity was the young team, JV followed suit by being an old team, composed of an almost equal number of ju- niors, sophs, and frosh, a formation very unusual to JV. The team kicked off to a reasonably good season start, although fluctuating between outrageously out- standing and outrageously average play. Surprisingly, a boon to the fast JV team were the five frosh on the team, all great players alike. Q1 , s,.s 2. The unknown Viking assumes the position. 3. Outfielder Augie Munoz cautiously heads back to first. QD Baseball 1 13

Making pla h Early in the morning, a huge, collective splash breaks the silence and serenity of the man-made lake's icy water. Looking closely, one can see a school of flopping, tan- skinned, green-haired crea- tures recklessly splashing and thrashing across the lake. And then it finally dawns on us: it's our boys' swimming and diving teams practicing and preparing for another conquest in aquati- cal competition. As with any other team, the swimmers took a while to get every- thing organized, but every- thing began to come togeth- er sooner or later. And emerging in the highlights were Lynbrook's best, and possibly even the league's best . . . maybe even CCS' best! Tough, dedicated, and fast swimmers, such as Paul Fischer, and strong, talent- ed divers, like CCS-bound Jeff Ritchey, composed and propelled the team IYes, even the soph squidsj left the competition lespecially Fremontl at the bottom of the pool. Finally, all the hard work, team unity, and per- sonal experience began to pay off as LHS powered into its typically great perfor- mance breaking records and breaking brakes in its drive for the top.
