orthwestern State Louisiana Tech came up with another fine performance against a nationally ranked small college team when they bowed to Northwest- ern State College in the annual State Fair Classic in Shreveport. Northwestern posted a 7-0 squeaker over the Bulldogs. the only score coming in the second quarter when Don Mayfields scored from the one-yard line. A deciding factor in the Demon triumph was four fumbles by the Bulldogs. Phil Robertson, Canine quarterback, hit two of four passes and sub Terry Bradshaw connected on 11 of 17. The combo threw for a total of 131 yards. A Liberto greeted after touchdown. Unidentified Arkansas State player is stopped by the rugged front wall of the Bulldogs. ALDEN REEVES Bulldogs in pursuit of a Cowboy. Arkansas State Elton Calhoun put his best foot forward against Arkansas State. The senior place-kicker booted two field goals to send Tech past highly ranked Arkansas State 6-3. A strong defensive performance also was important in the Bulldogs, second victory of the campaign. Calhoun kicked three-pointers from 38 and 21 yards. The winning boot came with about I1 minutes left in the game. State's lone score was a 30-yard field goal by Mike Ev- erett with about seven minutes remaining in the third period.

ew Mexico State Looking at the statistics, one would never have thought that Louisiana Tech dropped a 48-7 de- cision to major college New Mexico State. Tech held a 31-24 advantage in first downs and trailed by only 548 to 575 in total offense. The Bulldogs passed for 416 yards, with Terry Bradshaw throwing for 288. Bradshaw scored the team's lone touchdown on a three-yard run in the final quarter. Split end Tommy Spinks led Tech receivers with eight catches for 109 yards. FW' 1 'P ,.. Ns 4' 5- Assistant Coach Mickey Slaughter gives the good word to fkneeling, left to rightl .lohn Bernard, Tommy Spinks. Buddy Hearne, Ken Libertog standing, Terry Brad- shaw. The Bulldogs spotted the Lions 17 points in the first half, then scored all of their points in final two stanzas before falling 27-21. Tech easily bested SLC in total offense, 495-312. Phil Robertson passed for 302 yards and Tommy Spinks bagged 15 for 232 yards for the Bulldog's top offensive performers.
