When we entered junior high school, it was you who lis- tened to our problems and helped us to find our places in the larger scheme of things. At the same time your teach- ing was directed toward the attainment of perfection in all that we did. Later, we came to realize that many of our finest assembly programs were the results of your organi- zation and direction. What was even more important, we knew that we could always go to you for advice or counsel in any matter. We thank you, Mrs. Manning, for all of these things- to you we dedicate the Minetas of 1959. 5 ?oreword In a world that hourly grows smaller in time spacev it is no longer sufficient to Lift up thine eyes to the hillsf' but, lo, we must look farther, even to the stars and the planets. But while we are figuratively standing with our heads in the clouds, let us be realistic enough to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground. Let us remember that before we soar, the fundamentals must be carefully studied and tested. Here must be cal- culated the risks and the possibilities for error. Let us plan carefully, let us study diligently, let us make haste slowly. Life is a flight into the un- known. Great is the potential, magnificent may be the rewards, but the climb may be long and arduous. Disappointments and discouragements may cause us to temporarily turn aside, but success is born of triumphs over disasters. Greatness is achieved only by steadfastness to faith in our ideals and the things which we believe to be worthwhile. 6 fa:-tl: Satellite Uperatom fFacultyj ?oeleet Wlou . fSeniorsQ ff-oanl Crew . fUnderclassmenj Space Cluatter . fActivitiesj Space S' tation Stompera fMusicQ ?nte1-planetary Competition fSportsj Q -5 Q I giiug 2 SS, 4 . The Devils were strong and determined. Three ties could have meant the difference between four wine and seven wins. On the whole, this was a very satisfying season. lndiana-Our 1958 season opened at Indiana. The Devils got off to an early 6-0 lead. The score was tied twice at 6-6 and 13-13, how- ever, Indiana came alive in the second half to win it 26-13. Plum-Our first home game was an evenly matched and exciting game. Neither Leech- hurg nor Plum would give in to the other. Inability to score the extra points by both teams resulted in a 20-20 tie. Ford City-As we traveled to Ford City, we were hoping for our first victory. The Devils seemed to have more power than the Classers, but costly fumbles, which were recovered by Ford City cost us a 0-0 tie. Springdale-NVith a record of 0-1-2 the Devils went into the Springdale game with the at- titude of victory. Both teams tried desper- ately. Two juniors, Tom Defilippi and Bob Bonello, plus the regulars managed to squeeze out a 26-25 victory. Apollo-When we traveled to Apollo. we had a victory under our belts. and we wanted more. Seniors, Al Piecka and Tony Krasow- ski, paced the Devils to an easy romp over Apollo. The score was 32-6. Tarentum-Neither the Devils nor Tarentum could move. L. H. S. led 6-0, but the score was tied by the Redcats, 6-6. This was the final score. Kittanniiig-Leechhurg, the underdog, was de- termined to down Kittanning. This game showed a splendid amount of team action and was the best game that Leechhurg has played in many years. The Devils sur- prised Kittanning with a 19-13 upset. Arnold-Until the second half the game was a hard fought contest. Then a strong Leech- burg team took over and went on to sound- ly defeat Arnold by a score of 20-0. Freeport-As L. H. S. entered the Freeport game, the hopes for a victory were high. The contest was hard fought down to the wire. Al Piccka went all the way-a kick- off return. In the last minute of play Free- port scored and added the point which de- feated the Devils, 20-19. Thus concluded a successful season with a record of 4 wins, 2 losses, 3 ties. Due credit is given all the team members, especially the seniors.
