, 4 w Cowboys 28 Bearse ' 3 Bears 6 Junior Raiders o ' ' Bears O Golden Eagles O The Cowboys raced on to lea- gue championship by downing the Bears, 28-6, thus retaining an unblemished league season record, The scoring honors were passed around -- Scott Hill chalking up two touchdowns, Mike Hemby and Doug Sypert with one each, and Bob Jones made two two-point conver- sions. Kenneth Fickle, Randy Hicks, and Hemby then joined forces with the defensive unit to stall the good runs by Bears Jim Dunlop and Tracy Franklin, behind blocking by David Scott, and some fine passes by Dub Short. The Bears' defense wasn't asleep, however, with Mike Rowland, Barney Colvert, and Richy Nutt playing a hard-nosed defense, In fact, it was the Bears defensive team that made their touchdown, covered a loose that was the result of a bad snap from center, to score the TD. Ellis Smith made some good pass re- ceptions for the Cowboys. Here again, we can talk about the good offensive plays by Gol- den Eaglesfffaylor Hopkins, Da- vid Hodges, Rickey Romine and Timothy Rhodes, and Bears Roy Wearden and David Seaff, be- hind blocking by Richy Nutt. , .. ,- ..,, ... - gt But the defensive units here again spell the story, as the. Bears and Golden Eagles baffled to a socreless tie. Adding their bit in keeping the score down 'were David Ingram, Gary Smith and Tommy Collins for the Ea- gles, and Keith Dansby, Tracy Franklin and' Gene Hay f01' the Bears. The Junior Raiders have an un-enviable record of sorts go- ing for them, losing for the fourth week in a row, 6-0, this time to the Bears. ' Dub Short caught Jimmy Dunlop breaking i.nto the clear, zeroed a pass into his eager hands, and Dunlop didn't break stride, moving 88 yards, for the only tally of the game. The Bears' defensive unit, led by Mike Rowland, Roy Wear- den, Carl Irby and ithbD sb , then set about we no net around the hard runs by Raiders David Bostick and Gary John- ston, behind good blocking by Robert Konyha, The defensive team of the Raiders was far from idle, as Ray Wagnon and Bobby Easter- ling, with great tackles and blitzing by Randy Ellis, kept the good gains by Ben Newton and David Scaff to a minimum. It was another good game, well played by all.
