FOREWORD We, the class of 1955, feel that we have reached a memorable milestone in our Lives. We also believe that our Alma Mater is approaching a milestone with us as this year marks the 154th anniversary of the founding of the public school system in Laurel. ln 1801, Laurel Public School was established, and it has grown until today, its students are proud of this historic institution of which we are a part. After much consideration in seeking a suitable theme for this book, we decided that nothing could he more appropriate than to blend the life of Laurel School in the years which have gone by and are now only memories with the life of the school in l955. We hope that as you read our annual, the thoughts which we have presented will link themselves into a vivid picture of Laurel School in the past and the present.

DEDICATION Charles P. Helm We, the class of 1955, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Charles P. Helm with deepest regards for the splendid leadership which he has bestowed upon the Laurel School District during the past 29 years. Every deed that he has performed has been in the best interest of the school and the citizens of Laurel. It is only through his unfaltering guidance in the past three decades that the school has expanded to meet the demands of this new era. Mr. Helm has been most co- operative in advising us about the past to make our yearbook- then and now a success. It is especially fitting that this annual depicting the history of Laurel School be dedicated to the administrator who for almost a generation has been its leader. 4
