This year ' s Spanish Club was co-sponsored by l ls. Camara and Ms. Altmann, two of Las- siter High School ' s Spanish teachers. This active club ' s calendar was highlighted by many special events. Spanish Club mem- bers enjoyed experiencing authentic Mexi- can dishes during their excursion to a Mexi- can restaurant. A Christmas party heralded the arrival of that favorite holiday and the new year. The members also participated in a scavenger hunt which honed their Spanish skills. TY The Spanish Honor Society had a very busy year. Between cleaning the school and tutor- ing Spanish students, the members ate at Don Juan ' s Spanish Restaurant and lis- tened to Spanish speakers. They corresponded with a Spanish penpal and spiced up their meetings by watching foreign films and having a Christmas fiesta. The French Honor Society members enriched their knowledge of the French cul- ture by singing songs and en- joying entertainment in French under the guidance of Ma- dame Sterling. Dining on French cuisine exposed the members to new culinary de- lights. The students also wrote beautiful French poetry, which strengthened their writ- ing skills. Selling Christmas messages and sponsoring a French creative writing con- test rounded out this year ' s activities. Mademoiselle Tynes spon- sored this year ' s French Club. A celebration of Mardi Gras and a trip to the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina were among the ac- tivities of this year ' s club. The Festival of Trees was the first annual Christmas activity sponsored by the French Club, and it proved to be a great success. The French Club sponsored the First Annual Festival of Trees on December fifth. The Festival included many different Christmas trees which were decorated by several of Lassiter ' s clubs. Games and food added to the day ' s festivities. Santa Claus visited from the North Pole to the delight of the little children and made the day a tremendous success. The Junior Classical League (JCL), sponsored by Mr. Ewing, was a club designed to promote the Latin language and Roman his- tory and mythology. Members par- ticipated in Fall Forum, where they had a chance to meet with other JCL members and to compete against them in both the athletic and academic fields. Members also went out to Italian dinners and other club sponsored activities. Through various activities, mem- bers had a chance to learn more about the Latin language and Ro- man life and customs. ' ;•» ' ■ ' : 4i The Latin Honor Society was a club con- sisting of students who have been dedi- cated to the Latin language. Sponsored by Mr. Ewing, the organization published a newspaper in Latin and visited Italian restaurants in order to increase their knowledge of Roman and Italian culture. It was necessary for all students to maintain an A average in Latin and an overall average that reflected scholarly work in all school subjects. The Latin Honor Society students are also mem- bers of the National Latin Honor Society which only recognizes the top ten per- cent of the nation ' s Latin students.
