In the 1963 competition, the concert performance was the only one given straight Honey ratings of any other Houston orchestra. A large number of school activities were presented by the Lamar orchestra. The musical production, the 44Wizard of Oz, was accompanied by the orchestra. A Chamber Music Concert was presented, featuring string ensembles and solos. The orchestra played in the Spring Concert along with performances by the band and stage band. Outstanding members of the orchestra were selected to participate in the All-State Orchestra sponsored by the Texas Music Educators Association.
