One of these is Fariedeh Shirazi from Tehran, Iran. Facli , as she is nicknamed, is the oldest of four children, one boy and three girls. Her father' is a lawyer for the National Iranian Oil Company. We have been most fortunate in having Fadi with us. The knowledge of her country and culture, which we have gained by living and working with her, can never be replaced. We can only hope that she has enjoyed her stay here and learned as much from us as we have from her. Wherever she goes, our hearts will go with her. ,x ' LJ l iJJ ll i We Foreign Relations ol Marco Umaiia is the second foreign ex- change student attending Lake Shore. I-Ie comes to us from San jose, Costa Rica. Marco is also the oldest of his family, having two younger sisters. His father is a night watchman in a factory in San jose. In his own inimitable style, Marco has taught us many things about the Latin tempera- ment and society. His light-heartedness and enjoyment of life have added much to Lake Shore. We hope that Marco's year here has held many memorable events and acquaintances for him. We have made a memorable acquaintance in him. Steve Lezork Vice-President . . .... Peter DelPrince Secretory .... ...... S ustm Lcintzy Treasurer , , .... Regina Dcncihy e Are Seniors Only Once We never thought we'd really come to this point. Seniors-ready for graduation. Four years ago we were just starry-eyed little Freshmen, scared by the confusion of a new building, new schedules, room num- bers and locker combinations. We elected Peter De1Prince as our president. With the help of vice-president Carol Truby, secre- tary Judith Schraft, treasurer Patrick Danahy, and members of the class, we had our first fund raising event . . . a dance. Not to be outdone by the upperclassmen, we too joined chorus, band, sports, and extra- curricular activities. We anxiously looked forward to our next three years at Lake Shore. Sophomore year began and most of us were more familiar with the school and teachers. We were filled with hope and en- thusiasm for a successful year as we elected our officers: president Steve Lezark, vice- president Anna Malinowski, secretary Susan Lantzy, and treasurer Regina Danahy. Our hopes were fulfilled by our successful Hulabaloo which increased our treasury by over three hundred dollars, The Class of 1968 was definitely on its way. We returned in September 1966 to start our junior year. We elected our of- ficers- president Steve Lezark, vice-presi- dent Peter DelPrince, secretary Susan Lant- zy, and treasurer Regina Danahy-and our year started off on an upward trend with the first dance of the school year. As juniors we sold candy and pizzas. The zenith of our junior year was our ball, Winter Wonderland at which Carol Cicero was crowned our Junior Class Queen of the Ball. We ordered our class rings, had our senior portraits taken, took part in Moving-Up-Day ceremonies, and sponsored the junior-Senior Tea, all with the anticipation of entering our Senior year. Finally, brimming with enthusiasm, we entered Seniordom under the leadership of our re-elected officers. We immediately recovered the spirit we had as Juniors and sold magazines, dove into the Senior Play, The Boarding Haute Rearing and planned for Moving-Up-Day and the Prom. All through high school we've had only another year of classes to look forward to, but now, it's up to us to start making our own plans for the next year. College armed services jobs. We'll probably enter our future plans starry-eyed and con- fused as in the days which have passed us- but we still have our Senior year to look back on, and things even better lie ahead. The Green 8: White, under the co-editorship of Dolores Herc and Suzanne Quirk, was pub- lished once a month and did an excellent job in reporting school news and demonstrating students' literary abilities. The yearbook, Shorelines, under the co-editorship of Heidi I-Iardacker and Karen Ciccarella, has proved to be a prizeworthy publication, due to several innovations and much hard work. The presence of our two foreign exchange students, Fariedeh Shirazi and Marco Umana, has been an excellent op- portunity to increase international under- standing. The annual pizza sale went over very well and provided much for the treasury to finance another foreign stu- dent here next year. There will be on important meeting 9th period .. . Service Club is composed of students who are willing to devote part of their time and energies to perform many needed services for the school. The girls read the morning an- nouncements and do paperwork. The boys operate the film projectors, take care of all audio-visual equipment, and control the stage operations for the auditorium. These students contribute much to the smooth running of the school. Leaders Club This organization is made up of girls who have a certain number of ath'etic points gained from intramurals and interscholastic experience. Last spring, the band received its first 6A rating at the state-wide Music Festival at Fredonia They gave well-received summer concerts and had a member selected for the All-State Orchestra. This year, under the direction of Mr. Ciraolo, the concert band is showing more improvement and enthusiasm. The stage band was also a tre- mendous success in its debut this fall. More and more girls are finding personal satisfaction and a sense of accomplish- ment in team sports. This year the tennis team was chosen in the fall and trained for the fall tournament. The hockey team did well despite the bad weather and early snow. The softball team won all their games. Girls track did ex- ceptionally well in the county meet and came home with a trophy. The basketball team con- tinued the winning record of girls sports. As in previous years, Lake Shore's girl athletes have dominated interscholastic competition. B k b Row 1: C. Rieg, S. Quirk, A. Losing most of their lettermen through graduation, hopes for the fourth championship looked very dim. The team, however, displayed excellent coaching and spirit, and at this writing, is occupying third place in Division 2. Outstanding wrestlers include Paul Ricci and Steve Lezark, who are both undefeated through the Hrst round. Gary Bliss and Ken Hogg have only one defeat and appear to be getting stronger. All four have excellent chances of entering state competition at the end of the current season. Seniors Gary Mirusso and Ray Fazzalaro were often high scorers. Highlights of the season were the games against Sweet Home and Orchard Park which kept the spectators in suspense right up to the ends of the games. The Christmas basketball tournament was held in the L.S.C. gym this year. Ray Fazzalaro was chosen for the All-Star Team. As you review these pages in the days to come, they will remind you that many changes take place over the years. During your own years at Lake Shore Central you have seen changes. Change, to be sure, is an inevitable part of life. You began your years at Lake Shore Central A as adolescents and you were reborn as responsible young q s adults. May the knowledge you have gained here help I you to better understand this constantly changing world. May your learning never cease. May those enduring values essential for the good life, which hopefully you have perceived here, remain steadfastly through time and tide. Look not mournfully to the past It comes not back againg Wisely improve the present It is thineg Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear, And with a manly heart. Longfellow Mr. Robert Buier, Miss Susan Karin To those who are not on the staff, the production of a yearbook is a smooth, ef- fortless miracle. To those on the staff, it is a long, arduous task. Despite the great vol- ume of work involved, there are those who remain with the job until the book is pub- lished. We wish to thank these people, the staff members, and especially our layout editors and darkroom expert for the many hours they invested. Although there were lighter sides to our work, it was never easy. Our deepest thanks go to our advisors. Mr. Buier, harried and hard-working, and Miss Karin, new to the confusion this year and our chief ''grammatical-error-correo tor, somehow managed to see us through all the last-minute deadlines. To them we offer our proudest achievement, Shore- 1ines'68. K. Ciccarella Acknowledge- meh? E x H.
