CLASS PROPHECY I had just finished my nigth shift at St. Luke's Hospital as head table washer in the cafeteria. As I was leaving I bumped into my two head superior nurses, Susan Roen and Cheryl Lee Peterson. Susan was trying to tell Cheryl about some other local nurse who was fooling around with her new husband, Chad Everett. But no matter how Susan tried, she couldn't get a word in edgewise, because Cheri was busy bragging of her ability to see over the receptionist's desk. Cheri has aquired the new height of six foot, five inches now, and likes to tell Susan all about it. Well, I could see that they were busy, so I decided to to go and check on my who is still goint to Concordia college. I went to visit the dean to find out how Steve my surprise I found Evonne Ballard, the first woman dean of Concordia College. She have completely given up on Steve, and so she is personally tutoring him, because he his history classes. So I told Evonne to wish him good luck, and I started home for Lake As I was driving into Lake Park, I happened to notice a familiar '56 Chery parked decided to drive in and check it out, and there was Steve Mikkelson and Ron Berland, old friend Steven West, was doing, and there tc said that the instructors seems to be flunking all Park. in front of the Co-op. l still working on Steve's car. As I turned around to leave I bumped into Lori Fuglie, the present owner of the Co-op. She said that she was in a hurry, because she had to make it to the television studio where she was going to tape a singing come mercial for her Co-op store. Lori told me that since she has taken over the Co-op, and has had Steve as regular customer, her business is doing great. It was about noon, so I drove into a place called Jane's Jumbo Burgers, Cformerly Lee's Drive Innj. I wanted tc talk to Jane Bull about her business, but I could see she was busy so I finished my Jumbo Burger and Coke and drove across the highway to a place called Studs Sports Center. Someone came outside and I recognized it to be Steve Askelson. As he was filling my car he told me how he and Keih Krogen, had started the business aftery high school, and had changed name from Buds to Studs . I decided it was time to get up to the high school, so I wished Steve and Keith good luck on their business and drove off. As I was driving up Main Street I couln't get over all the changes that taken place over the past twenty years In fact, I was so caught up in everything, I didn't notice someone pull out in front of me. It wasn't until afte we had collided and got out of our cars that I happened to notice it was Coral Beske . She wasn't too excited abu me scratching her new white 1996 Corvet, but she understood why I didn't see her. We decided to call Tiny Tim's towing trucks, to get our cars to the auto body shop. Tim Jerdee opened up the business in Lake Park because that was the only service in town that began with the letter T. Coral had told me that the body shop was operated by Darrell Gunnerson and Brian Mischke. She said that they have been doing excellent work, with a combination of learning the trade through experience and their new slogan Trust your body to us! We knew the situation was in good hands so we went across the street to the cafe. As we sat down two girls rushed to our tables with menus. They were Lynn Backman and Kathy I-Iemness. Coral told me that they were sometimes like that when any member of the male species walks in. It has something to do with a MR. RIGHT, she told me . Since we had all this free time on our hands and since I could not leave town if I wanted to, here was my chance to catch up on the rest of the Graduating Class of 1976. Coral told me that she was now teaching HealthI and Phy. Ed at Lake Park, but I guess she wasn't the only one to take up the teaching profession. Joanne Strom is teaching the kindergarten. She decided this when four of the enrolling students turned out to be her own. James is teaching History to the 11th and 12th grades. They say the kids are just fascinated by all his war stories, but none of the other teachers can figure out the war. Connie Bowers has come back from a tour in London, where she sang and played trumpet for all the crown heads of Europe. She is doing some substituting, got a few weeks 9 s the band director. Yvonne Christensen is teaching art classes. She once was working for Vogue magazine, ut her drawings were hard to understand, so they let her off for a long, long vacation. J According to Coral a lot of new businesses have opened up since we graduated. Earl Berntson and Ricky Groom :arted a huge pig farm, and are selling all their pork products to the school lunch program. Cheryl DeGroat has pened a new music and vocal place, and whenever a new shipment of music comes in, Cheryl, Connie, and ori get together for a sing-a-long. I've heard that these little parties have gone on'until all hours of the night. Jody and Joel Mattson have opened the King and Queen Beauty Shop. After Jody won the Miss 1978 USA title. 'hey decided to go into business as co-partners. Jody working on the faces, and Joel working on the bodies. atty Lystrom has taken over Sunnyside. The residents say they need her very badly, and can't do without her. 'hey can't get over how she is just like one of the crowd. Lynn Meyer has opened a Karate Class at Sunnyside. in the first day she had over '75 people sign up, but she is still waiting for them to show up in the practicing nom. Veril Larson and Todd Nelson have opened up a combination Dance Hall and Bakery. They always said iey wanted to shake and bake? Dennis Olson and Lawrence Larson have opened a school of charm, and are loonlighting as truck drivers. Mitch Aarsvold bought out the Journal Office. They say ever since the Senior Zlass play he gets the biggest kick out of selling newspapers and collecting the money. Gary Vorgert and Verlyn 'llrich have taken to the hills, even in high school we could see how they loved the outdoors. I guess they are 'raking up, I mean they have a cabin in the woods. Mike Mclntire joined the marines. They say he missed lary Nordick so bad he just had to sign up. They were both home on leave a few weeks ago, and spent the ntire time driving up and down Main Street. Kari Halvorson and Debbie Erickson Ca local nursej decided to establish a local branch of the Fergus Falls lental Hospital. The town board wasn't too thrilled about the idea, but once they met them, they rushed it irough right away. Their two doctors, and main patients, Don Berland and Hal Dunham. Kari and Debbie say 3 is really interesting to watch them taking turns interpreting each other's dreams. Kendra Gates is driving the us after school. She feels so dumb, every day she has to have one of the kids direct her to her bus. Lake Park, once that town of gossip and rumors, really hasn't changed a bit. The latest is that Patty Larson as been making obscence phone calls overseas to a certain Navy man, through the town operator Connie Erick- Jn. Our old friend Brenda Pederson has been named Farmerett of the Year. She really is building up a lot of creage, and the local farmers, Curt Nelson and Loren Pollock, Ron Mattson and Darrell Dietz are not too appy about it. Everytime they gain an acre, Brenda gains two! One day they had to call the local cop, Mousie I, to settle one of their disputes. Oh, was everyone surprised when Clyde Ullrich got out of the cop car. After e broke up the big argument they asked him why he went into law enforcement. He said that he had turned ver a new leaf and taken a turn for the worse, besides, that's the only thing my Mom let me do. Coral tells me that Vicky and LuAnn have co-authored a new book, How to get an A plus in History. I uess it is now on the best seller list, and the last time I saw Steve West, he was buying four copies of the book. 'ne for each History course . By now Coral and I believed that we had covered -everybody. And everyone was doing fine at what they had hosen. We then decided to go check on the cars at the auto body shop. I agreed to pay for all damages and we oth agreed that we would meet again in another twenty years to find out about our fellow classmates who once named the halls of LPHS, wondering how life was treating them. But mostly, wondering if we will all every :ally meet again. Kevin Sieling QQ fda? az, -fi 3 J 5 VM! V te mg 4.1,
