STYLE SHOW An appreciative audience enjoyed the FHA Style Show on Friday afternoon, April 24, 1959, at 2 P.M. An un- usually fine display of the girls' sewing ability provided the program for the Kirkwood Woman's Club and their guests. Door prizes consisting of a two-tiered snack tray, a party apron, and a mosaic tile rack for hot dishes were won by Mrs. William Wise, Mrs. Robert Rushing, and Mrs. Russell Strong, respectively. The Style Show was divided into three acts with Act I featuring garments made during the fall sewing class. These were largely skirts and blouses made of cotton print, sailcloth, or denim. Some of the girls had made matching skirts for their little sisters. Act II showed garments made during the winter. Many of the girls had used wool material styling it into wrap-around skirts, straight skirts and Pendleton-type jackets, or straight skirts and jerkins. Most of them were on the tailored order and were quite practical because they could be worn many of the places a teen-age girl would want to go. In Act Ill, we noted a variety of spring and summer clothes from the real dressy styles to the casual sports style. A party dress with balloon skirt and two white dressy dresses were eye-catching in this group along with the summer cotton dresses, skirts and jerkins, and denim slacks. Escorts in this act were Harold Taylor, Fred Jenks, and Jim Johnson. The boys wore white summer coats and dark trousers. These outfits are tailored to a yoimg man's needs in that they can be wom for formal proms as well as for dress-up occasions during the spring and summer. Cookies and punch were served to bring a pleasant aftemnon to a close. Compliments of these Monmouth businessmen: GRAHAM TAILORS--E. ALUMNI BANQUET 81' DANCE The efforts of the committees for the 1959 Alumni Banquet and Dance were well rewarded when some 200 persons tumed out to enjoy a delicious baked ham dinner, visit with former schoolmates and their families, and relax for a few hours of dancing to the music of Don Gossick's orchestra. The dinner, which was served in the basement of the Westminster Church, was prepared by the ladies of the church with Mrs. J. D. Simmons, Sr. serving as general chairman. J. D. Simmons, Jr., president of the Alumni Association presided over the business meeting and introduced John Birdsell who served as toastmaster and presented Mr. Tim Lee of Monmouth College. Mr. Lee, a foreign student at the college, emphasized the value of an education and encouraged the graduating class to seek a higher education if at all possible. Music was provided by Little Claire Pence accompanied by her father, Lloyd Pence. Classes of 1914, 1934, and 1944 made a special effort to have their members present to celebrate their 40th, 20th, and 15th anniversaries. The Student Council sponsored the dance which was held in the gymnasium immediately following the banquet. A large crowd attended and was pleasantly surprised to see pictures of all the graduating classes which could be located among the decorations. The gymnasium had been transformed into an under-water paradise for the prom.
