Row 3: Janis Gray, Kathy Kent, Jean Gray, Ann Vosburg, Marsha Peterson, Nancy Gorry, Julie Petruska. I vars 1ty hockey Carolyn makes a quick test of reverse sticks. The crack of sticks, cold fingers, scoops and flics on a rocky and muddy practice field signaled the start of Girls' Field Hockey in September. Skill, team play, endurance, and the Stuart will-to-win were the ingredients of success. Led by Co-captains, Susan Metzger and Carolyn Stanley, also the Most Valuable Player, the enthusiasm of the girls with red and white sashes progressively grew. By the 1968 season's end, the Girls' Hockey Teams, under the direction of Mrs. Cheatwood and Miss Cunningham, had captured the Varsity District Championship and the J .V. County Championship. Teams to be proud of . . . Stuart's Girls' Field Hockey Teams. Kathy Kent takes a whack at the ball.

22 miss j.e.b. stuart contest The Miss J .E.B. Stuart Contest combined talent and beauty to come up with a totally new format. While the 73 beauties were presented, and during the judges' eliminations, the musical Shelly Burditt, Miss J.E.B. Stuart, 1969 and dancing abilities of some of Stuarts other students were demonstrated. The Stuart Business Club, sponsor for the Contest, also asked the FHA to stage its annual fashion show. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Miss J.E.B. Stuart of 1968, Shelly Burditt, by Georgina Miskell, last year's winner. Sophomores Dru Windham and Debby Barnes placed lst and 3rd runners-up respectively while Robin Dennis was second runner-up. Georgina Miskell, Miss J.E.B. Stuart, 1968, crowns Shelly Burditt.
