On October 2, just weeks before pre- season practice was to begin, head coach Larry Brin resigned. Assistant coach Paula Brin also resigned. Tom Worthing, a former Inman High School boy's coach was named to replace Brin on October 27. Pam Plummer, HCC volleyball coach, was selected as the new assistant coach. The team had seven returners: guards Pam Palmer, Edie Clouse, Tam- my Higgins and Becky Hornbakerg for- wards Fran Martin and Kathy Kuhlman and center Teresa Hund. The team got off to a slow start, los- ing their first three games in the Lady Pioneer Tournament, held in Harrison, Arkansas. Two days later the Dragons beat Sterling College 84-52 to get the season's first win. Fran Martin led the team in scoring with 22 points. HCC traveled to Allen County and returned with a 51-50 victory. With what was to become a season habit, Martin as the leader with 21 points and 18 rebounds. The Dragons won their first home game in the newly renovated Sports Arena 50-43, against McPherson Col- lege. Edie Clouse and Martin were high scorers, having 18 and 17 points, respectively. HCC hosted the Hutchinson Classic, December 3-4. The Dragons dropped the first game to Conners State Col- week to defeat Cowley County 63-58. Martin again led the team with 18 points. They also trounced Hesston 72-40, defeated Independence 76-55 and squeaked past Johnson County 63-61, to give the Dragons a 7-5 record going into the Christmas break. The women came back to lose and overtime game 62-55 to Barton County. The Dragons then pulled off a come- from-behind win over independence 72-66. Clouse had her best night of the season with 22 points. HCC marked up another come-from- behind victory, when they defeated Dodge City 61-56. Martin again led with 20 points. The Dragons won their next game in overtime, against Pratt, 65-63. Palmer was high scorer with 19. After a very long cold and snowy ride to Garden City, the Dragons beat the Broncbusters 92-44. The win tied the team for first place in the Jayhawk West with a 6-2 conference record. For the fourth consecutive game, HCC used its second hald rally to defeat Butler County 57-46. Seward County ended HCC's five game streak, defeating the Dragons 56-48. Barton County handed the team its second loss in a row, 65-53. The Dragons were handed their third loss in a row by Pratt 67-59. The team ended its season with a 59-55 loss at Dodge City. The Dragons ended with a 6-6 conference mark and 14-11 season record. Martin led the team in total scoring with 335 pointsq Palmer was close behind with 235 and Clouse had 226.
