LCDR RICHARD L. CARSON EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander CARSON was born july 12, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa and graduated from the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa in 1959. Selected for Officer Candidate School and subsequent to completion he was commissioned an Ensign on April 8, 1960. Upon commissioning, Lieutenant Commander CARSON was assigned in USS WALKE QDD-7231 as Electronics Material and Combat Information Center Officer. Subsequent tours were: USS WIDGEON KMSL-2082 April 62 to May 64 as Executive Officer, USS TILLAMOOK CATA-192, June 64 to November 66 as Commanding Officer, USS ROBISON QDDG-121 February 67 to April 68 as Operations Officer, Staff, Commander Cruiser Destroyer Force U.S. Pacific Fleet April 68 to March 70 as Scheduling and Assistant Plans Officer, and USS HOEL KDDG-135 April 70 to present as Executive Officer. ASMUS, USN COMMANDING OFFICER Paul Allen ASMUS was born in San Francisco, California' on March 30, 1928. He attended Monterey Union High School prior to entering Hartnell College in 1946 and Oregon State Uni- versity in 1947 where he ' d ' El ' n ' ' ' ' june 1, 1951. l l Following graduation from Oregon State University, Commander ASMUS served in the Amphibi- C d h' ous omman S ip ELDORADO, the Attack Cargo Ship ELECTRA and the Destroyer Minelayer SHEA in the Pacific before returning to Monterey as a student at the General Line School. From the Post Graduate School, Monterey, he reported to the Staff Commander, Service Force Pacific F1 h h ' ' ' eet, W ere e served as assistant to the Force Operations Plans and Readiness Officer Subsequently Commander ASMUS served in USS F ALGOUT and USS RICHARD S ARDS . EDW as Executive Officer. For outstanding service and heroism while in RICHARD S. EDWARDS he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V.
