Donald Williams l'm from Texas, Pardner, SEN 0K C'li45'5 fIl.Y7'0RJ' In spite of early blunders, we were the infant wonders of this school three years past. ls it ac- tually true that our high school days are almost over? Amazing! lt seems only yesterdey that we entered the Freshman Class. Mr. T. A. Guiton was our home room teacher, and with Mrs, Whitley and Mr Hamilton to help him push us ahead we soon found that the old saying, Learning's road is rough, is a very true statement, During the year, to our sorrow, we lost Jack Watson, Lucy Lupton and Georgia Grimes. 'Tis a pity. We began our Sophomore year under the guidance of Mr. Hamilton, our other teachers were Miss Pope, Mrs. Whitley and Mr. Lancaster. We were very brave and wise. We thought we had discovered a method that would get us through classes without the aid of books or a teacher, that is until report cards and exams came along, Our class was constantly growing smaller, We lost LaRue Bateman, Josephine Swindell and Marie Carawan. What a happy day when we became Juniors, Never another like it, so we thought then. The year was exciting and one to be long remembered, We had Mr, Q, M, Lewis as our advisor and Mrs Whitley, Mr, Hamilton and Mr, Tenney as teachers, ln March we gave the annual Junior-Senior ban- quet in New Bern, It was an impressive affair and enjoyed by everyone. ln return the Seniors hon- ored us with a delightful party. Nell Mayo, Ciniath Henries and James Almond left us at the end of the year Dignified Seniors at lastl Mr, Hamilton, our principal, did not return so Mr, R. A. Haddock came to fill his place, With Mrs. Whitley as advisor, Mr, Morgan and Mr. Tenney to help us our year has been a very happy one. Yes, we grew to be Seniors away last Fall, and the fourth year adventures were best of them all. And now, a page of our Log Book is turning, The happiest one, some say, Where naught but trivia has disturbed Events from day to day. What will we face in the future? What will our guidance be? Why, these remembered hours in l.ife's calmer sea. Nothing we know of the Morrow, But we have Yesterday, And the lesson it has taught us Will forever with us stav. We will look out to the future, up to ci shining star, Which, elusive as it may seem, is never very far. The challenge is before us to make the Right prevail, Each of us a Galahad in search of tha Holy Grail, We have our parting orders And each, in his separate way Will prove Success is not gained at a single bound, But by effort from day to day. William Joseph Carawan, Historian PROPHILZV Whe-e-en I wuz a young guy l went to l-lobucken l-ligh, got tuh be a Senior, after IO years or more. With my advanced age I should know what happened to my classmates. Bruce Morris kissed all the babies, was elected as the Mayor of the City of Mesic, I-le'Il be Gov- ernor, wait and see. 'Mongst files and typing, books and ledgers, Leatha Lewis is never at a mental loss, most effi- cient in an office-iand she weds her bald-headed bossi. I-lusky Fred Alcock rolls in wealth, teaching courses based on health. Of wim and wigor he has a load, step aside, he may explode. 7 l-lat designers in the city Noema Culp's and Una Sadler's minds run riot, no one should make hats out of spinach, but watch our two girls try itl Artist Levy O'Neal paints strange pictures, masterpieces by the score, while a dozen luscious models wait outside the studio door, Louise Barnett is working tonight in the hospital wards, giving words of cheer and hope to weary hearts for the lite they hold so dear. Train dispatcher in Grand Central, Kenneth Pate's booming voice is heard Blasts your ear drumsg but the catch is, you can't understand a word. Though surveyor Albert McKinney has a steady eye, one thing will distract his attention. Just let a certain young lady stroll by, or a name like Edna O'Neal mention. Notice our friend, Metta Carawan, teacher in Sunday School, busy making saints of sinners, teaching the Golden Rule. Undertaker William Carawan chuckles when you sneeze or cough, hoping some bewhiskered microbe will cause you to pop off. Esther Lupton bends her body, piling up the score in every game, surpassing all others, bringing her college fame Someone should shoot Barden Carawan, growling on the radio, scaring tots with nightmare hor- rors, as shivering, off to bed they go. Chef in a big New York hotel, Ben Gaskill is doing well, he can make hash in just three min- utes, Heaven alone knows how fast Alma Potter can sling it Fifty miles from the nearest neighbor, Thomas Sadler and Bert Norman sit, as fire wardens in a tower, people near them give them fits There are Ella Jones and Wayne Leavy cutting capers on Broadway, signing contracts by the dozen, stars that have come to stay. He can cure your chills and fever, that is Dr, Eric Campens boast. Which is worse, the ills or treatment? That's what puzzles us the most. So you see no one got ahead of me-I could teach the Faculty. Felt right tuh hum in a cap and gown. Don't you agree that 28's mighty young tuh graduate? Think l'll do the town, so long all.
