Miss Inman Our club that will never die. Yes, Scots, that,s Hi-Lites, the club that's strictly for the lassies. Hi-Lites is the largest club in the school with a membership of almost six hundred. And all these six hundred work in six groups. First, there's the Friendship Committee that's organ- ized specially for 2B's and transfers. The committee pro- vides a big sisteri' to help each new Scottie get in the swing of things. They also telephone and send flowers to the girls that are sick. Santa and girl friends at the Hi-Lite Christmas party. Second, there's the Welfare Committee which has had as its main project the Mexican Mission. Every month a group of girls has given a party for the children at three missions. The girls have also supported drives for books and clothes, and several Christmas baskets to the needy families. Third, is the I-Ii-Lite Brigade whose main function is to keep up the ex-students' record. Over a hundred girls are on this committee. Fourth, is the Red Cross Committee. This group has had charge of Junior Red Cross work, cross word puzzles, stuffed toys, Christmas stockings have been madeg and pocket-size books have been collected. Then we come to the high light of every Tuesday morning, the Hi-Lite program. Be it a speaker or be it a play, the Hi I.ites are always an enthusiastic and atten- tive audience. Tremendous applause or rolicking laughter from the auditorium on Tuesday morning never fails to make the boys jealous. Last but not least is the Social Committee. They are the lassies who help the Hi-Y give those swell get acquaintedu dances and who are responsible for the two Hi-Lite dances. This year the mid-term social was an all backward barn dance-probably the most novel affair Hi- Park has ever seen. And of course one of the main events of the year is the spring formal honoring the officers and providing a large donation for the Red Cross. The kids listed below are more than just Quiz Kids. They not only must acquire knowledge but alto polish the apple for the teachers and shine in leader- ship, citizenship, service, and character. In selecting these students the teachers use a preferential voting system- a first, second and third choice. An average is a re- quirement for membership in this select society. These Atomic Whizesn arouse much envy among their class- mates, especially their sophomore and low junior friends, for they are not eligible. The membership is restricted to three per cent of the 3A class, ten per cent of the 4B class, and fifteen per cent of the 4A class. These select students serve as ushers for all special programs and cemmencement exercises. This society is responsible for keeping individual cards recording the actiivities in which each student takes part throughout his high school career. It also sponsors the awarding by point system of the H Blanket, which is pre- sented to the boy and girl in each graduating class with the highest achievement score during their high school years. lf X .vQi'5'7ME. E555 files-:SJ x N: R for the following ideals: to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian characterf' Living up to these ideals, the Hi-Y has joined with the Hi-Lites this year to extend a help- ing hand to the underprivileged of our city by visiting the different church missions and entertaining and play- ing with the children there. Also, the Hi-Y aided fami- lies at Christmas with gifts of money and toys donated by the club members. Meeting every Monday at activity period, the Hi-Y has many interesting, educational, and entertaining programs and a few that are sleep-inducing. A few of the topics discussed are character building, Christian living, and youth's place in the post war world. On the lighter side a swell magic show was given by Harry McDaniel, Jr. In the social life of Hi Park the Hi-Y went all out this year. The boys strained their brains and muscles and whipped up a super-duper Victory dance that was ac- claimed by many as the best Hi-Y dance in many a year. The Hi-Y and the Hi-Lites coordinated their efforts to give the 2B's a hearty welcome in September and in January at the Get-Together Dance. The Clan's top medicine men-Hi-Y inductors. N .
