' 3 9-1 - GQJJ jflsfory On a bright day in the month of September 1954, a group of eager, en- thusiastic, young boys and girls embarked upon their high school career. Many were confused and intimidated by their upperclassmen. Nevertheless they were anxious to learn the meaning of high school and to begin their first year's work as freshmen. Many exciting events took place during the year. Some of which left last- ing impressions on our memory, such as the Homecoming Football gameg the Basketball Tournament, and the great May Day exercise. Having sailed smoothly through our freshman year, we returned in September 1955 to began our sophomore year, We had many pleasant experiences during the year, We retumed as Juniors in September 1956, vivacious and eager to form our school family group once more, We know our industriousness, co-operation, and determination was to work right from the beginning, to reach our goal and receive a higher classification. Although some of us were transferred to other schools most of us remained at dear old H,I, We learned that our Junior cruise would be planned and advised by Miss Taylor, Mr. Miller, Mr. Brown and Mr. Lewis, who proved to be very patient and understanding, The first responsibility that demanded our attention was that of honoring the Seniors at the junior-Senior Prom, For that occasion we chose the theme 'Hawaiian Night, and no other title could have been more appropriate for such a night of grandeur will be treasured in the hearts and minds of all who were present. During the year, as in previous years, we were well represented in all extracurricular activities that the school offered. During this year the sailing was not as smooth as the others, but with the help of John Vaughan steering the ship we arrived safely. At the beginning of the cruise of '57, we entered school with a business determination, With the coming of the Senior cruise came greater responsibilities Publication of the PANTHER, the annual HOMECOMING QUEEN, and her attendants, the ordering of rings, and finally graduation. As we disembark we shall ever be aware of the motto which has served as a beacon light during our cruise. That motto is, TODAY WE FOLLOW, TO- MORROW WE LEAD, Our faculty advisors during our entire cruise were Miss L. B. Taylor, Mr. J. X, Miller, and Mr. W. H. Lewis. Marjorie Taylor Historian GQJS 1' f We, the class of 1958, Town of Henderson, County of Vance, State of North Carolina, being of sound mental condition, do make this our last will and testament rendering void and of no avail any former will or wills that may have been previously made by us during a period of temporary optimism. In this matter do we dispose of our possessions: First: To our Principal we give and bequeath a sense of relief that we have at last graduated, pleasant memories of our association, and a feeling of pride in any noteworthy achievements that our future may contain, realizing that such glories will owe much to his example and counsel. Second: To our Class Sponsors and Faculty we leave our sincerest gratitude and our warmest regards for their kindness, their loyalty, and their patient labor, Third: To the Junior Class we leave our luck, ability, and dignity. We hope that their Senior Year will be as enjoyable and productive as ours has been Fourth: To the Sophomores we leave our kindness and patience, which we believe will prove useful in enduring the Freshmen. Fifth: To the Freshmen we leave our sophistication and our ability to start off on the right foot so that their High School education will benefit them as ours has benefited us. Our smaller individual bequests are as follows: To the Athletic Department we leave the ownership of the trophies our boys won, plus our wishes that they may win many more in years to come. To the Music Department a high note of thanks for the wonderful training given to our talented musicians. To the Thespians the ability to hold the audience spellbound after the de- parture of our talented actors and actresses. Finally, we do hereby name and appoint as the Sole Executors of this our last will and testament our class advisors, Miss L. B. Taylor, Mr. J. X. Miller and Mr. W, H. Lewis. Although some were lost by the wayside, The successful ones stood the test. Now that it's time to say good-bye, A sneam of sadness fills our hearts. For we hate to think of leaving, But the time has come for us to depart. We won't forget the things you 've taught us, Nor the happy smiles of our friends. But the struggle has drawn nearer, And we have finally reached the end. But still, no matter where we go or where we We will always stop and give a mournful sigh. For it's so hard for us to forget, Those years we spent at H. I. By John H. Vaughan GQ35 0170 Today We Follow, Tomorrow We Lead.
