New York, New York June 1951 At the end of his high school days a senior looks backward and then looks forward. Yearbooks frequently include lists of important or entertaining events of the four years under the heading Do You RCII1ClHbCfP,, and also indicate what plans each graduate has for the future. The wise senior looks back upon his high school days and takes account of his successes and his failures, his sound decisions and his blunders. Such an accounting helps hini to learn niore about himself, his strengths and his weaknesses. Such knowledge helps hini plan wisely for the future. Now is the time to look backward and then look forward. ARTHUR FRANZEN, Principal THE STAFF: Pia, Morgan, Melidones, Ocharl, Klamrolh, Wilson, Asmondy. Donald Seckans lAbsenU. The Quill and Hammer appears this term limited in size. YVith the suspension of extra-curricular activities, all work had to be done in school. However, we the staff-with little time and less space-have done our hest to highlight the events ol' our four years at Haaren. XVe were the lirst elass to have Senior Sweaters. lntt more intportanl. we were the first Senior elass to have an all- day outing. 'I'his gay event took plaee at Talltnan Park near Nyack. There were two lntsloads ol' hoys and several earloads. The Senior Cottneil hnstled ahont to do this. O. Adviser Mr. Wleissenberg, the G. U. was able to give all G. 0. members full discount privileges as in normal terms. Despite this suspension ol' extra-eurrieular activities, the G. U. fou- seientiously lowered its membership fees to less than one third its usual quota. It is the wish ol' all the G. O. that the situation between the teaehers and the eity be mended as soon as possible, so that onee again our G. O. will function normally. It is interesting to note that although the G. 0. is helpless at present insofar as the above situation goes, a Field Day was planned and enjoyed hy all, espeeially the G. O. members. Most important ol' all, the issue ol' stu- dent sell' government was diseussed and put into effect more thoroughly than in previous terms. THE COUNCIL Senior Members: Michaels, Guzman, Bogdanowicz, Khoury, Dawkins, Zoubondis, Kozlowski, Sfalen, Gulas, Oehler, Sanchez, Beck, Byrnes, Bernhard. THE ARISTA Haaren's Arista is composed ol' the leading students ol' our school. Its members are outstanding because they have achieved high ratings in scholarship, character, and service. The members hope in the future to extend the scope of this society beyond limited school activities. At the present, however, the leature social event is a theater party. For the first time in several terms all the ofhcers of Arista are graduat- ing seniors. They are -Iames loubandis-President, Talmadge Staten-Vice President, Stanley Dawkins-Secretary, Carroll Kollowski-Treasurer. YVe hope we can replace them. XVe in Haaren are proud of these boys because they have brought honor to themselves. their school, and above all to their parents. Nl lSS 'l'.XllSKY .-lrl1'is1'l' THE BRCADCAST Miss MATLIN, Adviser T The June '51 Seniors on the staff of the Broadcast worked on their last issue for June 6, 1951. That last assignment, deadline, typing joh, proof reading, copy correction and anxious waiting for the results fron1 the printer certainly were nostalgic moments because they would never hap- pen again. There would be no 111ore pep talks from Miss Matlin or the editors. There would be no more suggestions from o11r reading public. Could there he a life without the Broadcast? The graduating staff leaves tl1e paper in the hands of the luture editors, reporters, feature coluninists and typists with the hope that they will carry on as successfully as preceding staffs have, term after term.
