Third S Fourth Grades Highlights of the year for the twenty-six third and fourth graders included a Christmas, Valentine, Easter and Mothers' Day party. Tray mats and nut cups were made for the Junior Red Cross. The students participated in the Christmas and Spring musical programs and also in the Brownie and Cub scouts. The fourth grade made a replica of a jungle village. The two groups worked together on a class newspaper and made posters and scrap books on health. As this book goes to press the students are planning a pet day in which all will bring his favorite pet to school. Second Grade The second grade enrollment has remained at thirty-nine most of the year. Forty has been the largest group we have had in the room. We have been busy and happy. we have done much supplementary reading. In the language arts we have written small poems and compositions and have done some dramatization. We have studied Indians and Eskimos and found their lives to be somewhat diff- erent from ours. we illustrated this in built-up posters and in painting. uuring the year every child has painted at the easel. we earned a new book for our library by contributing generously to the Jun- ior Red Cross. We also gave freely to the March of Dimes. We made hospital trays for our Junior Red Cross project. we had four room parties and celebrated several birthdays. we thank all mo- thers who helped. We especially enjoyed the spring fielc trips. We had a fine year. First 8 Second Grades Calendar of Events During the fall our grade enjoyed several trips to the library. At the rary we selected our favorite books to take back to the school room. We also lected a big bag of pine cones to use later in the year for decorations. In October, our home room mothers, Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Hillier planned a Halloween party. We had orange and black caps to wear and a black witch made a milk bottle for decorations. We played pin the tail to the old black cat had ice-cream and pumpkin shaped cookies for dessert. For Christmas we made Christmas tree trimmings for the Junior Red Cross. lib- CO1- nice from and Pa- per chains and stockings made nice shaped tree decorations. Blown-out egg shells with blue designs and glitter on them were also used for tree trimmings. The home room mothers again planned a Christmas party. In January we painted Frosty, the Snowman, and Suzy, the Snowflake, on the win dows and huge snowmen parading around the bulletin boards and walls. The first trip was to Bishop Airport where we saw many different kinds of air- planes. A man conducted our tour and explained the different parts of an airplane He made the visit very interesting. We then watched the passenger planes take off and land. Many of the ch1ldren's mothers accompanied us on our trip. Next we visited a Flint fire department, where the students got a close view of modern fire fighting equipment. Our pet unit provided much enjoyment. We found it very interesting to learn about the many different pets. We made scrapbooks of our pets and this added to our fun. Our room mothers sponsored three special parties for us. They were our Christ- mas, Valentine and Easter parties. We enjoyed these parties very much. The enrollment for this year has averaged thirty-eight students. They desplayed drive and spirit comparable to the best. Early in the season Joe Sefa was brought up to the varsity team. Later, Ed wismer made the jump. Although the team was weakened by the loss of these two boys, the caliber of basketball was not lessened. Injury and illness played an important role in the success of the team. Char- les Smith, Aaron Brigham, and Lynn Cummings missed action during the season because of illness, Lynn was also out for an operation. The team made a very creditable showing for a record of 6 wins and 9 losses. Because of outstanding ability and sportsmanship, Bob Gordon and Lynn Cumm- ings were selected to join the varsity team for the post season tournaments. ' . iii' 'A n ' .
