BEE BASKETBALL Bill Phillips, Dick Green, lim Pecor, lack Dales, Marshall Van der Linde, lun Nishino. Darryl Holt, Bob Rylancc, lack Elder, lohn Duchart, George Hamlin, lack Kraushaar, Coach Don Kennedy, Coach Don Kennedys Bee's were not as fortunate as the varsity in their season- Winning only 4 out of their 10 league games. Top scoring honors went to Center lack Elder who led in their victories over Tustin, Capo, and Valencia. -5 tee and Dee- The second Basketball Championship came in the Cee division with Blanchard Beatty as coach. The team won all 5 league games-losing only 3 of their 4 practice games. Gary Davidson was the top scorer. Lacking experience and material, Coach Blanchard Beatty's Dee's had a poor season -winning 2 out of 5 of their league games. They wound up in fourth place in League competition. Wt. Nobc Kitada, Coach Don Kennedy. Hail tire Cham s- The Varsity, led by the able coaching of Don Kennedy, swept the Orange League-taking the first basketball championship in G. Gfs history. Starting slow with 3 losses in 7 practice games, the Argonaut quintet settled down to win all IO League games-including 2 heart-stopping 1 point wins over Valencia. The Argonauts won l game and lost 2 games in the C.I.F. playoffs. Iohn Borrego, Nobe Kitada, Ray Ramirez and Bob Archer were placed on the All Orange League team. Archer also set a new League scoring record of 170 points in 10 games and was chosen on the All C.l.F, second team. Congratulations, boys.

S eed Deman- Garden Grove's varsity Hjinx bust- ers finally broke the three-year Laguna Beach strangle hold on var- sity track competition. The Argo- nauts scored 5915 points to Laguna's 5215 in the Orange League finals, while the other schools trailed far behind. This brought to a climax one of the greatest seasons in recent years. New school records were set by Ray Ramirez, in the quarter mile, and the relay combination of Bob Umphres, Richard Applebury, Ray Ramirez, and Burns Srigley. Out- standing performances were turned in by Bob Umphress and Burns Srig- ley, Sprints and broad jump: Adolph Maya, mile: and Don Stroud, pole vault.
